| by SJ: June 10, 2004 THERES ALWAYS TOMORROW Or is there..one sports fan questions that strategy Ever heard of the saying Wait till next year? Or Well be back? Youre speaking in future tense. And theirs a reason that those sayings have lasted so long. Funny, you help to build a 300 million dollar ballpark, and your team tells you were building a team for the future? The future? What the hell? We build a ball yard and you tell us the future is bright? What about the present, miserable, were tired of the losing. Yet, the ballpark gets built, the money begins to come in, or so they say it does, and whats up with the team? Explain to me why a team gets a new ballpark and 3 years later tears its whole team completely to shreds after of course another pitiful year, leaving it with a payroll smaller then Michael Jacksons nose. Its interesting because we have no rights to spend the money that we do, to get a slap in the face in return. Now, no one says that when you spend money you always win, but come on, at least put in the effort. And now going back to Building for the future and those other crappy sayings, lets think about em. Tell that to the NHL, whose Florida Panthers have been building for what seems forever and now have started well you guessed it a another rebuilding plan. Come to think about it, theyve had as many new coaches in the last 5 years as theyve pretty much had wins. O yeah, the future is bright. The have a great young goalie, a good crop of youngins. Only there is one small, teeny weeny problem. Their might not be a NHL next year. So how can the future be bright, if their may not be a future. And for the Florida Marlins, who won a World Series and make little money because of revenue sharing with the Dolphins. They cant get a new park even though their future is so unbelievably bright. How can their future be bright, when they might not even have a future in their current home. But while the Panthers got new digs for digging a hole, the Marlins get to be known as the team that could be gone by tomorrow. Future tense, future speak as they say in 1984. Hows the future so bright. Heres a thought, the present in essence is the future. Look at it like this. A team playing in the playoffs is expected to go all the way, because theyre the best team in the present. All the way is the future. The future is whats next. IF youre building for the future youre basically building up a block of B.s. Because if the present is the future, then what is the future of the future? Sounds futuristic, doesnt it. As complicated as it may sound, its rather simple. Youre always playing for the future. Long term contracts are signed for future security, long term stability. So now, now make an argument that youre building for the future while playing in the future while building for the future. Phew! Discussion, case, ball game, debate OVER!
