Fright Night
by JM Alegria
I heard a sound in the night
It's a sound so full of fright
The hairs on my neck stood
My back as stiff as wood
My heart pounds hard at my chest
As I got myself dressed
And ventured into the night
Where there's no trace of light
It was so dark, I could hardly see
I heard something, I thought it was me
An ear-piercing shout rang ahead
In the middle of the night so dead
Fear grips my heart, as it didn't before
I turned to look at my door
It's not to late to hit the sack
But I know I can't look back
Again that heart-shattering sound came
Louder this time but just the same
So full of intensity, hair raising
Got goosebumps in my arms, rising
As I drew nearer to the sound
I can hear the faraway cry of a bloodhound
I have to keep my fears at bay
So to know what lies beyond, I may
I have arrived now to the place
I think where the monster graze
I can hear his low growl
His stinky smell like a toilet bowl
I can hear his faint breathing now
The air smells so foul
I can imagine him so large, so strong
His poisonous claws are long
As I came nearer, I see his huddled form
So menacing yet unbelievably forlorn
He suddenly turned his bloodshot eyes to me
He opened his mouth, jagged teeth I could see
Saliva dripping, his eyes on me still
As he stood up, I let out a long shrill
But was silenced as he reached up for me
His enormous hand gripped my body
As I was raised up high, level to his eye
I knew at that moment I would die
I then saw a long tunnel with jagged precipice
At that instant I knew I'm not in one piece
