Tolkien Tops Sci-Fi List

From The Honolulu Advertiser - Island Life

J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" series is ranked No. 1 in a new Top 10 of science fiction compiled by editors of the Science Fiction Book Club.

J. K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series didn't make the cut.

"More time has to pass before you can gauge if something is overwhelmingly significant," said Andrew Wheeler, an editor for the 50-year-old club. "In another 25 years, I think it's a fair chance she'll be on it."

The rankings, in order from No. 2:
"The Foundation Trilogy," Isaac Asimov;
"Dune," Frank Herbert;
"Stranger in the Strange Land," Robert A Heinlein;
"A Wizard of Earthsea," Ursula K. LeGuin;
"Neuromancer," William Gibson;
"Childhood's End," Arthur C. Clarke;
"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?," Philip K. Dick;
"The Mists of Avalon," Marion Zimmer Bradley;
"Fahrenheit 452," Ray Bradbury.
