State Curfew: Why/Why Not?
A look at both sides
Against Curfew Laws
From the Seattle Times
Several of the cities in the United States that have Curfew Laws on the books are reviewing those laws in light of a state Court of Appeals ruling that curfew laws are unconstitutional.
In its ruling, released Monday, the Appeals Court found that the curfew law infringes on the right of minors to freedom of movement and expression, and is unconstitutionally vague.
From Teenage Curfew Laws: Beneficial or Deterimental
Sally walked out of the coffee shop downtown and wandered to her car. It was about 12:15 a.m. on a Tueseday overe the summer and her parents had set her curfew for 12:30 a.m. Sally thought she would be home right on time; unfortunately, the Roanoke City Council thought otherwise. Since Sally was 16, she was breaking the teenage curfew in Roanoke City. Roanoke's curfew, which took afect on July 31, 1992, requires that teens 16 and under be off the streets by 11:30 p.m. from Sunday though Thursday and by 12 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Because Sally's parents did not set her curfew in compliance with the one Roanoke City had set for their child,Sally became a criminal. Is that realy what Roanoke wants to happen? By setting a teenage curfew, Roanoke City is undermining parental authority and turning innocent teens into criminals.
For Curfew Laws
From Law to Repeal the Curfew
When a city decides to pass a curfew law than that is just like any other law and if one should break that law than he or she can be fined just as if he or she had shop liffted. (that was all I could find for the law!)
What I think
believe that parents should set the curfew for their children and that no law should tell a parent how late their children should stay out at night.
If that law is inforced in Stanton(where I live) than half of the city would be in jail.
Next time you vote for a law don't think about how it will efect you but how it will efect the country as a whole. Over 59% of the country's population consists of people between the ages of 15 to 21.
