Step 1
You should see an advert for peoples servers (called fserves) displayed every so often. These are the people sharing the folders. A basic advert should look like this:
[Fserve Active] - Trigger: [/ctcp username trigger] - Sends: [0/10] - Queues: [0/100] (Then there will be some information about the server that isnt really that important)
Basically where it says trigger that is the command you need to type in if you want to download from someone. If this users name was petersmith and the trigger was !torrents and you want to download from this user you would type
/ctcp petersmith !torrents
An easy way to do this is to copy and paste the trigger without the brackets or << >> signs
You have now sucsessfully accessed the persons fserve
NOTE: Please Type the /ctcp command in the main chat window
Step 2
Now can be a bit tricky. If you know ms_dos commands this next bit will be easy. You will have to type commands in the box that comes up. A list of some of these commands are:
dir
(or Is) Lists the files and or sub directorys within that directory. After you have typed dir a list of files and/or subdirectorys should appear in your DCC chat window.
cd subdirectoryname
cd = change directory. When you type cd subdirectoryname , replace subdirectory name with the name of the subdirectory. (e.g. if the subdirectory is called movies type cd movies)
cd..
Type this with the dots, this will move you up one directory. Basically take you to the directory you were at before.
get filename.ext
This is telling your computer to start downloading the file. If you wanted to download
The _Gangs_of_New_York_cd1.mpeg you would simply type
get The_Gangs_of_New_York_cd1.mpeg
PLEASE NOTE: Before downloading from Irc, make sure you have your DCC options configured correctly, you need to make sure they are set to recieve incoming DCC files and that DCC Ignore is turned off.
Since all the major torrent sites are down, the sharing of torrents has moved to Irc for a bit. The above instructions explain how to download a torrent from irc. Basically a torrent is like a link file to the main file you are trying to download. First you need to download the torrent in Irc (above guide) then go and find the torrent file in your download directory. You then need to open the torrent file and choose where to install it. Thats about it, you do need the bittorrent 3.2.1. installer to be able to run torrents you can find that HERE
