Let there be no mistake, Shawna Robinson is fully qualified for a shot at Nextel Cup racing. Shawna entered NASCAR in 1988 in the Dash series and that same year became the first woman ever to win a NASCAR touring series race, won the rookie of the year award and was voted most popular driver. That's quite a list of accomplishments for any driver for one season. Shawna Robinson, a true racer in every right, a winner in her work with kids, and a bright star for the future of NASCAR. Shawna is the only female driver to have won a NASCAR touring series event in any division, winning in a Dash Series car earlier in her career. And now she is on her way to driving in Nextel Cup. She is a woman who is not afraid to pursue her goals, even in a male dominated sport. She is out there pushing the limits, and paving the way for other women in racing. She is a female, but she doesn't use that fact to get what she wants. She is in the garage, and does her share of the work. I also love the fact that she has a family, and career, and yet is able to find balance in her life. Its manageable. She proves that women no longer have to stay at home with the children. Robinson moved up to the Busch series in 91 and in 1994 became the first woman to ever win a Busch series pole as she found the top spot in Atlanta. Shawna took a couple of years off from racing to pursue one of her other passions, her family, but returned to full-time racing in the ARCA series in 2000. That year Shawna posted ten top-ten finishes on her way to a sixth place finish in the points.
