The origions of AFI ( A Fire Inside) can be tracked  all the way back to high school when teenagers davey havok (vocals),Markus Stopholese (guitar), Vick (bass), and adam carson (drummer) started a hardcore punk band in Ukiah, CA in 1991. Vick soon left the group, The first of many line up changes the band would endure on the road recognition. Geoff Kresge took his place, and AFI released an EP Behing the Times. The band split up after  graduation and it seemed AFI was over  when the members traded there instruments for  academia. AFI-biography
Fourtuanetly , the members returend home for christmas break and preformed a one-off reunion show at the pheonix threatre, a venue they played at when no one seemed to care who they were .This time the audiance responce was so overwhelming that the group members quit school and become a full-time band. They recorded a live 7-inch from the reunion show called Eddie Pinc's All Wet and another 7-inch called Fly In The Ointment released on Wedge records.
In 1996, AFI released Very Proud of Ya on Nitro
Records; two more albums followed in
1997,Answer That & Stay Fashionable and Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes. Both Kresge and Stopholese left the band that year. Hunter joined on bass, while Jade
Puget (redemption 87) took over on guitar.
The new lineup recorded an EP titled A Fire Inside in 1998 and released a full-length ambum,Black Sails In The Sunset, in 1999 subsequently releasing a four
song EP called All Hollows E.P., featuring the origional version of "Totalimmortal," which recieved
hevey nationwide radio airplay when the Offspring recorded it for the soundtrack to the film Me, Myself & Irene.The art of drownin (2000)was recorded in Berkley famous Fantasy Studios with the
co-production of Chuck  Johnson.
