| Summary: And when I awoke and felt you warm and near,/ I kissed your honey hair with my grateful tears./ Oh I love you, girl. Author's Notes: This chapter occurs right before the last one. Hope that made sense! For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her is by Simon and Garfunkel. What a dream I had: Pressed in organdy; Clothed in crinoline of smoky Burgundy; I hold Catherine close to me as she continues to bleed out. I call out frantically for an ambulance, what's taking so long? Softer than the rain. Suddenly, I'm in the hospital, watching her as she sleeps, her breath so soft I can barely hear it. And I beg for her to wake. I wandered empty streets Down past the shop displays. I heard cathedral bells Tripping down the alley ways, Things had been going so well for us. We had recently discussed our friendship becoming something more. We had agreed to take it slowly, we thought we had all the time in the world. As I walked on. We were wrong. And when you ran to me Your cheeks flushed with the night. I watch with relief as she wakes, her blue eyes large and bright. She's come back to me. We walked on frosted fields of juniper and lamplight, I held your hand. I hold her hand as she drifts back to sleep. I'm not leaving her again. And when I awoke and felt you warm and near, I kissed your honey hair with my grateful tears. I awake with a start. It's been awhile since I had that dream. I thought I had moved past that by now. But as I look at Catherine lying asleep next to me, I know I haven't. Neither of us have. And as I lay a gentle kiss on her temple and my tears run softly into her hair, I know that I won't be able to until she does. As sleep again overtakes me, I begin to formulate a course of action. Something that might save us both. Oh I love you, girl. The Next Day I stand outside Catherine's room, looking at the small card in my hands. I'm nervous about having this conversation, but it needs to happen. It's time for us to heal. Oh, I love you. TBC |
