| Summary: Broadway is dark tonight/ See the young man sittin' in the old man's bar/ Waitin' for his turn to die/ You choke down all your anger/ Forget your only son Authors Notes: I got the first idea for this fic the first time I saw this episode, but I never got around to writing it. But after watching the episode again, I decided to write it down. Its a Warrick-centered post-ep for Random Acts of Violence. Hope you all enjoy! Broadway is by the Goo Goo Dolls. One more thing: I dont know anything about gambling, so if any of this is wrong, sorry! Spoilers: A post-ep for Random Acts of Violence Broadway is dark tonight A little bit weaker than you used to be Warrick continues to stand against the fence, looking at the rec center. That place had saved him as a child, and it would no longer be there for other kids like him. And its all his fault. Broadway is dark tonight Finally unable to be there anymore, he walks away. Almost against his will, he drives to the strip. See the young man sittin' in the old man's bar Waitin' for his turn to die He enters the Bellagio and goes straight to the casino. The cowboy kills the rock star And Friday night's gone too far For a moment, all he does is stand on the casino floor. He had sworn to himself that hed never be back here, that hed never allow himself to get sucked back into this. But today was just too much. Hes not that strong. The dim light hides the years On all the faded girls He heads to the blackjack table. Forgotten but not gone He sits and waits while the dealer deals the cards. You drink it off your mind And he plays. You talk about the world Like it's someplace that you've been He should have stepped away from the case, should have let Grissom handle it. He knew he was too close. You see you'd love to run home, but you know you ain't got one Cause you're livin' in a world that you're best forgotten, around here But it had been personal, he couldnt just walk away. But he shouldve. Broadway is dark tonight A little bit weaker than you used to be Hes not paying attention tonight, so he loses most of his money. Broadway is dark tonight When most of its gone, he leaves. See the young man sittin' in the old man's bar Waitin' for his turn to die And goes to the slot machines. You choke down all your anger Phelps would be so disappointed to see him here, to see him being sucked in again. Forget your only son Grissom had saved his career after Holly Gribbs, and he let him down today. Phelps had saved him as a child. It seems only fitting that he let him down today too. You pray to statues when you sober up for fun When he spends his last quarter, he suddenly stills, for a moment. He cant believe what hes just done. You're anger don't impress me The world slapped in your face It always rains like hell on the loser's day parade Like a man possessed, he pushes away from the machine, and almost runs out of the casino, and towards his car. You see you'd love to run home, but you know ain't got one Cause you're livin' in a world that you're best forgotten Once there, he hangs his head and finally allows himself to cry. When you're thinkin' you're a joke and nobody's gonna listen To the one small point I know they've been missing around Finis |
