What Am I Up To: I'm a former student at
the University of Arizona (go cAtS!). I have pursued a career in music
education for the past 15 years, but have found my life heading in a
different direction.
At the University of Arizona....
I had the amazing
opportunity of performing with several ensembles over the 3 semesters I
attended. Also, I experienced for the first time, being recorded for a
professionally produced cd. One with the Wind Ensemble under the
direction of Gregg Hanson; premiering a piece written for the
ensemble by a composer local to Tucson George Maslanka. [Concerto for
Miramba and Wind Ens. and the Maslanka Concerto for Alto Saxophone with Wind
Ens. accompaniment; featuring Joe Dudah, the Alto Sax studio professor at
the well esteemed music school University of Michigan]
Performing
with the Pride of Arizona under the direction of Jay Reese, was
another one of the amazing experiences had at the UA. I was a
part the 2000-01 POA premiering "Tommy" music from the musical as well as
auditioning and returning on student staff for the 2001-02 POA, performing a
tribute to Danny Elfman "Music from Oingo Boingo" (finishing the show with
the finale from Edward Scissorhands).
I was a part of several other ensembles including: The
Pride of Arizona PEP BAND, which is a nationally known and well respected
group that performs at All men's basketball games, women's basketball,
volleyball, women's soccer, women's softball, and many various charity and
fund raiser campaigns around Arizona. The pep band is formed
from the UA POA by audition.
Other ensembles I've performed in were: Trombone
Choir, Wind Symphony, Campus Band (Tuba & Trombone). My
primary instrument was Trombone where I was instructed under Tom Ervin (a
retired Principle Trombonist for the Tucson Symphony & well known "Jazz Cat"
among the Jazz community)
