| Why Manna? by Pastor Hermie Manabo "What is it? Moses said to them, It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat." (Exodus 16:15) From the apparent description in Exodus 16:31 and Num 11:7-8, manna was like a coriander seed and looked like resin. The people went arouind gathering it and then ground it in a handmill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooke dit in a pot or made into cakes. It tasted like something made with olive oil. In spiritual snese it denotes the good of truth that is the good of the spiritual church. Hence it is also called the "grain of heaven" by David. "He commanded the skies from above and opened the doors of heavens and made manna to rain down upon them and gave them the grains of heaven." (Psalm 78:23-24) Grain denotes the truth which is given also to those who undergo temptations. "To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it." (Rev 2:17) Manna in the supreme sense signifies the Lord. It denotes the good of truth and all good is from the Lord. Consequently the Lord is good and is the good itself. Therefore as ambassadors of Christ we have to nourish and sustain it and proclaim the Good News from heaven. |
