Love is a matter of chemistry, but sex is a matter of physics.

Two weeks later,
Saint Jude's Children's Hospital fundraiser
Liam Kincaid positively hated protecting Da'an at times. Especially
when the occasion required him to wear a tux. The majority of the
females present continuously shot surreptitious glances his way,
quickly averting their admiring gaze when he noticed them staring.
But it was for a good cause and so he forced himself not to squirm
too much under the fabric of the restraining outfit, and even gave
the woman a few charming smiles to keep them happy.
"You're looking lovely this evening, Major," a familiar female voice
complimented.
Turning around, Liam found a stunningly dressed Rene Plamer standing
behind him, a wide smile on her pink-tinted lips.
"You don't look so bad yourself, Miss Palmer," Liam returned,
smiling approvingly.
"Why thank you." Switching her Champaign glass to the other hand, she
moved to stand beside the Major, joining him in his visual survey of
the part guests. "Quite a turnout."
"Yep."
"So, have you seen the way Ronnie keeps glancing at Erin?" Rene
asked after a moment of quiet.
"No. Why?" Liam answered, glancing over at her.
"Because every time he does, she gives him that damn smile of hers
that makes every guy in the vicinity swoon."
An amused smile touched Liam's lips at that. "Do I detect a touch of
jealousy?" he teased.
"Jealous? Me? Of him? You have got to be kidding. I mean, he's short,
completely cold-blooded, power-hungry, and an Implant."
"Watch it, that's my daddy you're talking about," Liam remarked
quietly with mock-hurt, searching for Erin among the large array of
guests.
"Sorry, but if someone his own age isn't... attracted to him, then I
find it a little hard to believe that a 22-year-old would be."
"Who says she's smiling at him? She might have a thing for Taelons."
"Yeah, right. If that were true, she wouldn't be on our side. Which
is another reason for her not to like Sandoval."
"Hey, guys."
"Erin!" Rene exclaimed, surprised to find the younger woman coming
toward them from the perimeter of the room. She quickly plastered on
a smile.
Erin frowned curiously. "Did I interrupt something?" she asked.
Rene shook her head. "No, no, of course not. We were just talking,"
she replied calmly. "Um, in fact, I have to go talk to your dad. You
can keep Liam here company. Excuse me?"
Erin nodded and took the older woman's place beside the Protector.
"I like your dress," Liam told her with a genuine smile. "Blue's my
favorite color."
"Oh. Well, thanks. If you don't mind me saying, you do look very sexy
in that tux," Erin informed him. She could've sworn she saw Liam
blush then, but the Major turned his gaze back to the Taelons across
the room before she could see for certain.
"Thanks," Liam said with a slightly sheepish smile.
Just when Liam was beginning to fell uncomfortable by the uneasy
silence that had fallen between them, Sandoval detached himself from
Da'an and Zo'or and began heading in their direction.
Great. Now what does he want?, Liam groaned to himself.
"Major," the shorter agent acknowledged with a curt nod. "I'm sorry
to interrupt, but may I have a word with you, Miss Morgan?"
Erin had to stifle a grin. "Certainly," she replied politely. "It was
nice seeing you again, Major."
Liam inclined his head. "Likewise," he returned with a smile. His
brow furrowed in combined curiosity and suspicion, Liam watched his
father follow Erin out of the ballroom and into the hotel loby beyond.
That's weird. I didn't think he even knew her name. Why do I feel the
sudden need to follow them?
Returning his attention back to the Companions, he quickly located
the UN Companion's Protector, Lieutenant Grey, and put his hand to
his earpiece. "I'm heading to the rest room. Cover for me," he
instructed quietly.
Across the room, the Lieutenant nodded his acknowledgement and
stepped closer to the group where they were 'chatting' with some of
the hospital's doctors.
That taken care of, Liam made his way to the doors and snuck out into
the night, asking one of the doormen if he'd seen Sandoval on the
way. Standing on the stone steps of the gothic mansion-hotel, Liam
scanned the expanse of majestic grounds, finding no sign of Sandoval
or Erin.
There was, however, a source of light coming from one of the shuttles
parked a few feet away from the house. Frowning, Liam set off towards
his craft. He was certain that he'd activated the Virtual Glass
shield and shut off the lights before leaving it earlier that
evening, and a DNA scan was required to 'unlock' the shuttle.
As he got closer, he began to make out the distinctive shape of two
humanoid figures and a strange, low moaning sound.
If I didn't know better, I'd say that sounds like... Oh, my God!
Coming to an abrupt halt, Liam's dull green eyes opened wide, his
mouth threatening to do the same, as he finally realized what the
shuttle's occupants were doing.
Sandoval's pants and boxers were lying discarded on the floor of the
craft beside the passengers seat, along with a pair of peach panties
and Erin's blue pumps. The young woman was resting over the Agent's
lap, her bare knees positioned either side of him as Sandoval sat
back in the velvet-cushioned chair, gripping her grinding hips.
Liam found himself rooted to the spot, staring shamelessly at what he
could see of his Human father and the back of the woman that he
himself was attracted to, as they made love in his shuttle! He didn't
know whether he wanted to snicker like a school girl or introduce the
driveway to the chicken salad he'd had for dinner.
He was about to turn around and leave the 'happy couple' to it, when
the scuffing of his feet on the gravel made them pause. Wincing, Liam
cursed silently and stood as still as he could. As long as they
didn't look to the left of the shuttle, they wouldn't see him.
Thankfully, a little sparrow flew down to land on the ground a few
feet away from him, in clear view of the cockpit.
The little bird trotted along the stones for a moment, then took of
into the pitch-black sky.
Liam breathed a silent sigh of relief as he heard Sandoval reassure
Erin that it was just a bird, then saw him pull the young woman down
for a long, deep kiss.
I think I'm gonna go blind, Liam groaned to himself as he stealthily
started back to the manner, careful to remain out of his father's
line of sight. But at least they weren't completely naked. That'd
give me nightmares for weeks.

Rene finally managed to get away from the persistent young surgeon
that had cornered her after her conversation with Hubble, making an
excuse about her boyfriend being in the men room's. Grabbing another
glass of Champaign from a passing waiter, she made her way through
several clusters of chatting guests and joined Liam as he was coming
through the door, a rather shell-shocked, horrified expression in his
eyes.
"What happened to you? One of those women that's been eyeing you all
night finally corner you in the bathroom?" Rene quipped with a grin.
"Nope. But I did see my daddy having sex, in MY shuttle," Liam
informed, with quiet outrage.
"What?" Rene laughed incredulously.
"You were right about him and Erin."
"They were doing it in your shuttle?"
"Yep. Right there in Da'an's seat," Liam confirmed, letting his
breath out in a slow sigh.
Rene grimaced and took a sip of her drink. "Who would've thought
Ronnie could be so..."
"Kinky?" Liam finished for her, rasing his eyebrows as he helped
himself to Rene's glass.
"Yeah."
"Oh, you'd be surprised." The young Major quickly gulped down the
rest of the Champaign in one go, grimacing at the bitter taste. "Now,
if you'll excuse me, I think I have to go throw up."

One hour later, as they entered the shuttle, Da'an noticed the
stifled grin on his Protector's face as the young man sat down in the
pilot's seat, clearly trying not to look at the chair Da'an was about
to sit in.
"Is there something wrong, Major?" the Taelon asked, lowering himself
into the seat.
Liam shook his head, bringing up the controls. "No, nothing's wrong.
I think I just had too much Champaign, that's all" he answered,
sobering a little.
"Perhaps we should accompany Zo'or and Agent Sandoval, then. If you
are unfit to fly?"
"No, no, I'm fine. I'm not drunk or anything. Prepare for take off."
As Da'an strapped himself in, Liam banished all distractions from his
mind and focused his attention on flying the craft. As far as he
could tell, there was no sign left behind as to what his father had
been up to, but the Agent had seemed a little flushed upon returning
to the party and Erin couldn't stop smiling after that.
Well, good for you, Dad. It's about time you found someone, even if
she is 13 years younger than yourself...
