this takes place at the end of Crossfire, the season 2 finale. Enjoy!!
Aftermath Part 1:
After the rain of bullets and the roar of the helicopter hovering outside the window an eerie silence descended in the tiny apartment that had up to a few moments ago served as a Resistance save-house. For a few moments nothing moved. Then Augur carefully moved out from under the table. Shaking with shock at what had just happened he looked about him at the carnage the Volunteers had inflicted. One moment he had sat with Doors, listening to Liam as he spoke to Lilli who was about to overload the engines of the Taelon Mothership and the next the world had exploded. He vaguely remembered ducking beneath the table, covering his ears against the sounds of destruction.
Even in the dark he could see that little remained of the furniture that had been sparse to begin with. Bullet holes pitted the walls. Doors sat closeby, looking dazed with shock. He had not been himself since the betrayal by his son Joshua and the events of the last couple of minutes had done nothing to shake him out of it. Quickly Augur crawled to him.
Doors, are you okay? he asked and Doors nodded slowly.
I think so, he shook his head; The world has gone mad.
You could say that again.
A soft moan coming from the corner of the room made Augur look around. Liam lay facedown on the floor, unmoving.
Liam? Come on, buddy. Talk to me, said Augur as he knelt down beside his friend and carefully turned him over. The motion made Liam groan with pain and Augur sucked in his breath. Something was very wrong here. His hands splayed out over his friends unmoving form and he encountered a wet patch in Liams left shoulder.
Doors! Liams been hit! Augur shouted over his shoulder at the former candidate for the American presidency. Before he could check if Doors reacted at all, Liam moved and groaned as agony exploded in his left shoulder. God, it hurt! He held his breath until it faded somewhat and then opened his eyes to look up into Augurs worried face.
Thank God! No, dont try to move, Liam. Youve been shot.
Are you and Doors okay? Liam managed through clenched teeth.
Yeah, were fine, though Doors looks to be in shock. I dont know how we survived that attack. Im gonna try to stop the bleeding, okay?
Dimly Liam nodded. He moaned when Augur pressed a piece of the former tablecloth against his shoulder and applied pressure to it. Pain erupted once more and he had to fight to keep from fainting.
Augur tried to ignore his friends pain and held the cloth in its place until the bleeding stopped. Then he quickly bound Liams shoulder as best he could and sat back on his heels. This was not looking good at all. He knew they had to get out of there soon, before the Volunteers would come looking for them, but the streets were not save. Come to think of it nowhere was. With the possible exception of course of the hideout. Liam had to get to a hospital, but even that was too dangerous. Maybe Dr. Park or Dr. Belman would be willing to help once they got back to the cave?
Augur, we have to get out of here, said Liam as he tried to push himself into sitting position without jarring his shoulder. He only partly succeeded and he had to sit very still for a few moments to let his sudden nausea die down.
I know, but we have to be careful. You should be in hospital to have that shoulder looked at, but Im not willing to take that chance. We dont know if you are still a Companion Protector or not.
Hows Doors? asked Liam as he glanced over at the former Resistance leader. Doors still sat slumped in the corner Augur had found him in.
Not good. Its almost as if he has given up, now that Joshua has betrayed him. Hell have to come with us. Can you walk?
I think so, nodded Liam and he gratefully accepted the arm Augur stuck out in support. Without it he would never have made it to his feet. Augur tried not to let his worry show as he carefully helped Liams wounded arm into a makeshift sling. His greatest worry was that Liam would go into shock. He had no medical knowledge whatsoever and had no clue as to how to help his friend.
Doors? We have to get going before more Volunteers show up. Liam needs you to support him. Hes too weak to walk by himself. Can you do that? asked Augur, hoping that Doors would come to his senses if placed in charge of something. He sighed his relief when Doors nodded and got up to move to Liams side.
