Story:

He Doesnt Play Golf. . .He Destroys It

Happy Gilmore is a struggling hockey player who just cant make the team. When the IRS repossess his grandmothers house, he must try to earn enough money to pay for it back. A former golf pro-- Chubbs Peterson sees how far Happy can drive a golf ball (thanks to his dads patented slap shot) and tells Happy that being a pro golfer can make money. Happy wins a charity tournament which makes him a part of the Pro Golfers Tour. Happy struggles at first because he cant putt well, but still manages to accumulate some money while dealing with
obnoxious tour king-pin; Shooter McGavin. In a pro-am tournament, Happy is paired up with Bob Barker the host of The Price Is Right. During the tournament, a heckler breaks all of his concentration and soon Happy and Bob find themselves in last place. In Bobs rant about how much Happy sucks at golf, a fight breaks out. In the end, Bob knocks out Happy. For punishment for getting into a fight with a game show host on national television, Happy is suspended for one month from the tour, thus ending any chance of saving his grandmas house. Happys girlfriend
and tour public relations director Virginia comes up with the idea for Happy to be the spokesman for Subway, which gives him enough to pay for his grandmas house.

At the bidding for the house, Shooter McGavin seriously outbids Happy. He agrees to give him the house of Happy quits the tour. Happy then makes a deal; if he wins at the tour championship he gets the house, if he loses he quits. Shooter agrees. At the tour championship, Happy beats Shooter through most of the game, until the heckler returns and runs him down with a car, seriously affecting his long drive. Happy falls in place, but soon comes back and is tied with Shooter. Shooter sinks his ball and remains tied with Happy. Just as Happy is about to putt his
ball, the TV Tower collapses onto the green blocking his path. Happy decides to putt anyway and putts the ball in a series of bounces through the TV Tower and into the hole, thus winning the tour championship and his grandmas house.

My Review:

This was the first Adam Sandler movie I saw and it was non-stop hilarity. The story is kind of cheesy however. But Sandlers comedic wit shines through. Great performances from Chris McDonald as the antagonist Shooter McGavin and Carl Weathers as Happys mentor Chubbs. The music isnt very good however but its sometimes hardly noticeable. Of course honourable mention to the fight scene between Happy and Bob Barker. Truly classic stuff.

Special Trivia: Prior to the release of the film, there was a Happy Gilmore themed showcase on "The Price Is Right" where Adam Sandler makes a guest appearance.

Also on "The Price Is Right", a stage manager is also named Adam Sandler, yet there is no relation between the two.

Hilarious/Memorable Quotes:

Chubbs Peterson: By the way, thanks for dressing up.
Happy Gilmore: (sees a guy in loud golf attire) Hey, if I saw myself in clothes like those I;d have
to kick my own ass.

***

Shooter McGavin: This man is a disgrace to golf! I saw two big fat naked bikers in the woods off 17 having sex. How am I supposed to chip with that going on?

***

Shooter McGavin: Just stay out of my way, or youll pay. Listen to what I say!
Happy Gilmore: How about I just go eat some hay? I can make things out of clay and lay by the bay. I just may! What do you say?

***

Happy Gilmore: Hey, public relations lady! Have you seen Shooter McGavin around?
Virginia Venit: No, why?
Happy Gilmore: Oh, I just need to beat the living piss out of him.

***

Happy Gilmore: Id love to punch that guy in the face right now, but I cant cause I get in
trouble. I bet you get a lot of that on Lets Make a Deal.

Bob Barker: Its The Price Is Right, Happy.

***

Happy Gilmore: All right! Lets go! (Punches Bob Barker in the face) You like that old man? You want a piece of me?
Bob Barker: I dont want a piece of you. . .I want THE WHOLE THING! (Punches him back)

***

Happy Gilmore: (knocks out Bob Barker) The Price Is Wrong, bitch!
Bob Barker: (wakes up, chokes Happy and knocks him down) I think youve had enough.
Happy Gilmore: (tries to get up)
Bob Barker: No? (Kicks him in the face) Now youve had enough . . .bitch.
