BED TIME

by Mike Napa

Last night I went to tuck my son into bed. I gently arranged the covers, pushed a stray hair out from his eyes, Leaned close to kiss his cheek and whispered, "I love you" Instead of saying the same back to me, he simply smiled and said, "I know. I paused. How did he know that? I asked. Rolling his eyes as if I'd asked the dumbest question on earth, He quickly responded, "dad, you tell me that every day. That's how I know."

After a quick hug, I went into the living room. My wife was reading there. For no particular reason, I said to her, "I love you" She simply smiled and said, "I know."
