My grandfather was a very special man who was always eager to help others and to cheer us up and make us laugh. He was a hero in my eyes, a tower of strength as I grew up in a frightened child's world. He taught me many wise things in my lifetime and I've grown with his inner strength inside my heart and soul all of my life. My grandad's favourite saying was 'I can and I will'... there was no such word as 'can't' in his life. He defied many things that others thought impossible, like eating razor blades and light bulbs on stage when he was an actor! He ran many more miles for charity than was thought possible for his age, swam more treacherous seas, did almost anything anybody dared him to do. He was a hero to many, a man to be admired, a person I'm forever grateful to call my grandad. I know he is now up in Heaven with my grandma and his beloved dog George, his sister Patty, his mother and father, brothers and sisters, and many friends, but best of all, I know he is with God, and that one day we will all be together again. I never thought even death could take away my strong grandfather, but he sadly lost a long and brave 4 year battle against throat and lung cancer. The last 2 years of his life he lived without his voice box, it was removed with the tumour in his throat, yet grandad still learnt to talk again by belching air. He took up golf and won many trophies, he became very active again for a man in his seventies. Sadly, in 1992 the cancer returned with a vengeance and spread to his lungs, heart and stomach. After a long illness very bravely fought God took his hand and led him home. We will always love and miss you grandad. Look after grandma and save a place for us all. Thanks for watching over us down here and keeping us safe. Sending lots of love and kisses in the breeze to you....
