Owed to the Stifled

by Dawn Hunt

Your mountains could tell a thousand tales

Ten thousand war lords for every open mile

Oh Afghanistan how much can you suffer

Still your cry is strong,

You’ve waited for so long!

They owe you everything,

They owe you the world.

Palestinian plant an olive tree

Love it before they tear it down

Dying with your mind

Pride and dignity on your side,

They owe you everything

They owe you the world.

How can you heal your lands

Can you ever get it back?

Cleanse your souls with dirty water,

Wash your feet with bloodied hands.

Oh peasant,

Beautiful peasant.

Dying in your fields

Waiting for crops to yield,

We owe you everything

We owe you the world.

Hey martyr

Desperate martyr.

Don’t know where to turn

Still your passion burns!

We owe you everything

We owe you the world

Oh peasant

Beautiful peasant

What you could teach us.

We’ll walk with you

Some day

We’ll love like you

Some day.
