Rant For The Day: 17.7.07

by Dawn Hunt

Greetings campers,

And how important it is to meditate on the state of our beautiful planet and the dark times the world is going through.

I read the story of the Canadian woman and her moving experience.

Like a lot of people, I don't aspire to the 'god thing' but maybe rather the spirit world...

I certainly know that it is possible to be led or guided in a spiritual way and, it shouldn't have to be considered extraordinary, but of course, in the conventional thinking world we live in, it always is...

So, at a minute late (11,12A.M.) this morning, I sat down, closed my eyes and could only think for about 18 minutes, because I had arranged for someone to come to my house, but here's what came to mind:

Whatta scary place this world is, especially when you have a child.

When I was a child, I used to think it was scary, dangerous, unpredictable and violent.  Yet now, what we have is the things predicted/promised some thirty-odd years ago, right here in our faces.

In the west, for decades now, families have disintegrated into dysfunctional, violent, alcohol/drug ridden disjointed nonentities.

Children don't appreciate the 'value of THINGS and want want want this or that, all the time.

In the media and everywhere, kids from a really young age, are encouraged to whine and whinge for material 'things they really don't want or need...

The west is greedy and materialistic, and wages wars on some of the poorest countries in the world...

In the east, south or the 'majority world, there is mass poverty, while the very few enjoy privileged and rich living...  Governments are corrupt, tribal wars abound and, particularly women face some of the grossest oppression...!

All of these negative things together are destroying our planet, our societies and leaving a wreck for the next generation to contend with...

Where's the John Lennon of our time; someone to stand up to the 'powers that be' and directly/peacefully, challenge what’s going on - in Washington,

London, Bangkok, Berlin, Sydney, Cairo, Islamabad, Jerusalem and everywhere else around the world...

In saying all that, it won't just take one lone heroic soul to remedy the planet, societies or humanity, it'll only take the kind of motivation and peace movement that was present during the Vietnam War protests.

The kind of people power, demand for freedom and human rights, that just doesn't exist anymore.

People seem to, wherever they are, be good at doing things from the keyboard of their PC, but when it comes to 'real voting, the real leg work it takes to make a difference - people are sooo> apathetic...

Whether through music, art, writing or whatever talent one has, it could be put to use in the name of world peace and salvaging the environment or society...

Okay, sorry to 'GET ON THAT SOAPBOX' but some one's gotta have the balls to do it.

I'm not an idealist or utopian, but I do believe in the power of collective will - sisters and brothers, we aren't PUSHING HARD ENOUGH...!

Okay, so go back to watching TV, buying that 'much needed CD or bottle of wine, but just for once, could you think about the message here?????
