| RENICHI's Den | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Name: Renichi Age/Gender: 20/Male Rank/Craft: Journeyman Woodcrafter (since 17th turnday) Lives in Dawnlight Hold, taking care of some of the fine wood bearing trees. He has been trained to see rot, damage and bad ground, and because of his love of the very trees which he uses to create inlay and such he has asked to go to a weyr and stand to impress a dragon. Why? Because Thread threatens every aspect of his livelyhood! From the birth of the youngest sapling to the old trees which Dawnlight has painstakingly kept alive over 300 turns, it threatens the ground and soils which provide life for everything! Renichi is a very strongly built young man, with broad shoulders and a strong body. His hands are equally strong, but he can use them to craft delicate etchings and inlays. He has yellowish skin, and like some others in Dawnlight's hold, his hair is shocking white. He keeps his cut short and shaggy. His eyes are light green, and he has very expressive eyebrows. He has no pets, but enjoys the company of felines and fire lizards alike. If he impresses, his name will shorten to R'chi. He is a good candidate for a blue or brown dragon. He will enjoy the flexibility of a blue or small brown and will hope to remain near his home Hold as much as possible, to keep the forests there safe.

"It is a new weyr," Shard said, "I've only flown over it, but A'rd has been there." He handed the speaker's platform over to his head Search rider. "We're going to pick one or two lucky people for this first clutch of theirs. There are sixteen eggs, and one of them a queen." A rumble of approval ran through the assembled Dawnlight folk. A queen egg was always a good sign. "Now, Silvermoon has some rules, like..." A'rd looked at a wherhide note he'd scribbled while there, "well, for instance: the greens are not allowed to clutch. This means that only the queens will fly. Their restrictions on female riders on male dragons might be prohibitive," he glanced at a pair of over enthusiastic girls, ones he knew had the muscle to back up their words. They dampened their excitement. "But in all," Shard said, trying to pick up spirits again, "the weyr is new, and we'd like to have at least someone on the trip back standing on their sands. The Protectorate is looking forward to a good exchange with them in the future." Renichi stood forward. "If this weyr is ready, I'd like to be included." Others scoffed, some of them outright telling him he couldn't go if the dragon didn't search him! Just to prove them wrong, of course, Trelerth nodded once at his rider, and was joined by Shard's Jeremoth. "The noses have it," A'rd said, "so, Renichi is it? A wood crafter like you will have a lot of an edge over the other candidates, strong arms and a good back. It takes a lot of strength to ride a dragon, and even more to raise one." A'rd glared at the young man who'd mocked. "And it isn't always a sure thing. He may stand and impress, or he won't. No one ever knows." Renichi knew. He felt it in his heart. He'd never felt like this before! The blue dragons didn't bespeak to him, but they did seem interested in him after the other potential candidates had been sent back to their business. He gazed at Trelerth, the healthy dragon from Aneris looked back at him with whirling green eyes. Eyes like his own, Renichi thought. Though he could never claim to see what they might have. He'd been on the ground when the last Thread fell, near the edge of the forest. He and several other woodsmen rushed to their cart for agenothree tanks, but the fact was that the wing took care of the Thread before it reached their area. With relief, with a kind of bliss that was brought on by having his dream at least partially realized, Renichi packed up his things and rode Trelerth along the coast to Silvermoon Weyr. His new home for the next ... well, if all went properly according to the dream, it could be two turns! Renichi sighed and deposited his things right on the courtyard and then waved to Trelerth as the search rider departed. "Now..." He said, "where to find the headwoman, and a nice comfy weyr..."

When the time came for the hatching, Renichi and the others rushed down to the sands, and then watched as a beautiful bronze came out of his shell. Two blues and a green came out next, the green impressing before either of the blues. Two other dragons, brown and bronze, hatched next, and then two greens. The queen egg hatched and passed by Rox, who Renichi had gotten to know a bit because of their shared Dawnlight history. She looked very disappointed, but then the blue which hatched next impressed her. Another brown came out, then a blue. A brown and green hatched together. While the green was busy looking over her potential riders, the brown walked right toward Renichi, knowing who he wanted right off! I am Rolonirth! "Hello Rolonirth, I'm Renichi!" The woodcrafter said, happily. His heart pounded, and he was giddy. I know, bespoke the dragon. Take me to the food! "Anywhere you wish, o great brown friend!" R'chi announced, and they left the sands.

Renichi wanted to change his name back to its proper spelling. The moment he found out that Pern was not to be the Protectorate's home any more, the Thread would stop falling soon enough and they would not be needed, he demanded it be done. I like your long name and your short name, Renichi, R'ichi. As long as I am still Rolonith to you that will be fine with me. "Then we're Renichi and Rolonith, craft riders! Heh! I like that a lot!" I like food. And bathing. And, I love the smell that the wood you work has. It is so ... woody! Chuckling, Renichi continued to press that dark wood into a lighter one, while the dragon's wings grew strong enough to fly...

With the crafting on this new world of Alskyr so open and useful, Renichi determined himself to protect the forests here from the Rampage plants which spored occasionally. Though that was usually a job for Gryphons and their riders, Rolonith was one of the few dragons who transfered over to the new world and adapted both physically and mentally. He grew beautiful horns, and kept his brilliant red-brown skin. And, he continued to be able to produce flames, where most other Pernese dragons could no longer. I like it here. Look at the woods! They like your work too, those House folks! "I know, they're aching for my talents. And yours, too!" Renichi laughed as they flew to another House to trade his inlay work for silken clothing.
