Derrek and Yentris now Der'k and Herreroth Y'tris and Martilloth

Back to the Candidate List Impressed at Andromeda Weyr!
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Twin brothers, Derrek and Yentris, both age 15 turns. Hold born and bred, both of them Smith craft Apprentices. Young and innocent, but with some potential in their craft. Derrek (left) is a bit more aggressive and open, while his younger twin (by about half an hour) Yentris is sedate and somewhat shy. Derrek plans to ride a dragon, has always hoped to be searched. His dreams might come true! He hopes to use new techniques he has developed in the smithy craft to make armored leather gear being experimented with at Alabaster to the east.

Yentris has secretly wanted to fly but he knows that anything he does will be overshadowed by his brother. He is not jealous though he does wish that Derrek would ease up a bit occasionally. Both brothers are more welcome in the Holders camps than some others, and will certainly represent Lord Taljorra when they do take to the air. Derrek will shorten his name to Der'k, Yentris will elide his to Y'tris. Derrek truly wants to ride a bronze dragon, however he may be suited to a brown. Yentris is more a follower but his nature might also be good for a blue more than brown.

"He can't hear you," Yentris announced when you and he enter the smith crafter area of the Hold. The bellows provide a huge rush of air every few seconds and the sound inside is tremendous. The more quiet brother leads you into the depths of the crafters workroom. Not only is is loud, but hot! Hotter than the sands at Andromeda weyr, where you have come from. "This is my brother," Yentris said, thumbing behind him at the other tan-haired lad who lifted a hammer again and again at a thin metal sheet. Finally, Derrek took tongs and lowered the metal into the bucket beside his anvil, and steam rose along with a sharp hissing sound into the air. He took out the cooling piece, and finally noticed that you and Yentris were looking at him. "Heyo! You're the rider from Andromeda?" He asked, quick to catch on, apparently. "It's just a short flight away." You watch as he puts down his work, and the pair of brothers bargain out their time with their craft master. It is certain their work will be put to good use in the new weyr, and also quite certain to you that their muscles are well-used to hard work. Just what it takes to be a dragon rider! Finally you take them to your brown dragon, and they lift their satchels of belongings onto his back. You had to assure the pair that there would be crafting supplies at Andromeda, though they would be among the first to use them! "And when the dragons are old enough, we're to join a wing in the Protectorate," Derrek said loudly over the wind, "but if Andromeda needs us we'll always be near, won't we?" "I hope so," you say, guiding the dragon into flight, "I surely hope so!"

When the hatching was announced, almost everyone in Andromeda weyr had finished dinner, done whatever evening chores they had left, and were preparing to sleep. Mostly. Except the eggs! They were waking up quickly! The candidates rushed down, and Derrek and Yentris were grinning their heads off among them. By the time everyone was settled, a bronze hatchling decided it was time to start it all off. What a good sign for the weyr! A bronze hatching first out of their very first clutch! Then a blue, two greens and a brown broke shell, and all four of them chose their perfect mates. Another trio of dragons came into the world, and one of them, a blue, went right for Yentris! He had a lot of momentum, and Yentris laughed. "Really, Martilloth, you're going to hurt yourself if you keep doing this!" The dragon looked dreamily into his rider's eyes and bespoke while making a soft noise, I am sorry, Y'tris! The queen egg broke, and impressed one of the two girls left. The last eggs broke open, all at once. Another of the Dawnlight candidates Impressed the bronze there, but then a big brown came right up to Derrek. The dragonet wasn't completely able to keep his balance, and dropped into a heap at the young man's feet. "Are you all right? Herreroth? These sands are hot!" Then pick me up and help me off them! I know you are strong enough, Der'k!

So ... I came first, is that it? "You sure did, Martilloth," Y'tris smiled at his blue. So proud of himself, for having passed all the right tests and being a very good flame-spitting Thread fighter! He liked to hear stories of their youth, after a good flight, so while Y'tris and D'rek bathed and got their clothing clean of ash, Y'tris would tell them both again, of how their hatching went. Herreroth seemed to like hearing things about their old home, Dawnlight. So much so that the dragon finally asked, When can we see it? And his blue brother agreed.

"We can go soon," D'rek said, shaking out the ashes from his hair, "we've both got a wing to be in!" "That's right," Y'tris said, looking at the wherhide request for the pair of them to join the Uplifted Spirits wing in the Protectorate. Both of them would be able to continue their smithy work, in addition to their thread fighting. The dragons were excited at it, but still wanted to see their riders' home.

"Then let's go," Y'tris said, "we've got the request, we're supposed to be meeting the wingleader, L'ex, so we might as well." "Once I'm packed," D'rek announced. "I've been packed," Y'tris muttered, and D'rek grinned at him. Towling off his shoulders, and listening to the dragons out in their large shared weyr, D'rek tossed the towel at him. "I know you're packed. Why don't you take that blue menace of yours out to Dawnlight Hold first. That way you can have him teach that clumsy oaf of mine where to go!"
