Report from Rosemary-
Stephen picnic - September 2005

I arrived at Lincolns Inn Fields around 1.25pm or so.
Everyone else was already settled in the bandstand,
in the shade, eating. Was immediately told that
Stephen had sent a message saying he couldn't make it,
which didn't really surprise me but have to confess
I was disappointed. After various hellos and getting
ourselves sat down, we started on our food.
Next up the Disney quiz sheets were handed out and
everyone got absorbed in those. Looked up during
a thinking moment to see a rather scrummy bloke
in a red cap who looked very familiar approaching
I pretended I hadn't seen him. :o)
No one else seemed to until he was right
there and said hello.
Was very weird, everyone went quiet, lol!
Anyway, a few of us stood up to go and greet him
and he spoke to us for a bit, then he went round
to say hi to the various groups - was quite
strange seeing him crouching down to their level, lol!
When he came back to where we were he got his own
quiz sheet and obviously he knew pretty well all
the answers, being the Disney expert!
He didn't help me at all, really he didn't..... ;o)
In a break from quizzing, we had a chat about
panto and his press launch for it the day before
and I also showed him that pic of Rebecca and me
from when we did the TV show, The Crunch, a few weeks back
- he was surprised to see how different she looks
now and asked how old she is. Reminded him she
was seven when they first met!
The quizzes were collected up and somehow,
a few of us ended up talking about chocolate,
which is a subject I'm very fond of and am knowledgeable
about, so that was good, lol!
Then it was photo time and everyone took a turn.
I had two because I wasn't keen on the first one I had
- for the second one he was standing on the step
of the bandstand , which is why he looks like a giant
suddenly! He suggested the group one so everyone's
cameras got lined up.
He somehow ended up next to me - not my idea honestly,
he just appeared there!
Was really tough standing there for the time
it took to have about a dozen pictures taken... :oP

The quiz result was announced and Stephen presented
the winners with their prizes - lovely signed photos of him.

Goodbye time after that, we all thanked him for coming,
he gave everyone hugs and he said 'same time,
same place next year?' :o) Then we waved him off.

The 'I can't make it' trick was his idea, cheeky boy.
What a star for turning up again though.
Now have to wait for Christmas and the panto for
another fix - really must get some more shows booked up,
only have opening night so far.
