KEITH NEWS

Though Keith has left Coronation Street, he is working on other projects (see Keith's Bio page for more info.) Keith has always been a big supporter for different charities, such as the Irish Autism Action charity as well.

Here are some recent stories about what Keith has been up to:

Duffy says fond farewell to the Street

KEITH DUFFY: New challenges. Former Boyzone star Keith Duffy has bid farewell to Weatherfield after nearly three years on the cobbled Coronation Street.

The Irish heartthrob shot his last scenes for the popular British soap last week and to show how much he'll be missed, the entire cast came together to send him off in style at a party in his honour.

Keith's wife Lisa and their children Jordan and Mia flew over for the gathering in Manchester's Deansgate as did his parents Sean and Pat.

"We're really going to miss Duffy," says Sally Lindsay, who plays troubled Shelley in the soap. "He certainly has been one of the most popular members of the cast."

Dubliner Keith has played loveable rogue barman Ciaran McCarthy for the last three years. However producers ended the singer-turned-actor's contract after they decided his character had run its course. The public can see his farewell scenes in September.

Keith can also soon be seen in the new Irish movie Three Crosses

Corrie star's autism plea

CORONATION Street star Keith Duffy recently opened his heart on The John Daly Show, about his autistic daughter, Mia.

The Irish actor, who plays bartender Ciaran McCarthy, has enrolled his little girl in a specialist school in the Republic, which uses a one-to-one technique called ABA (Applied Behavioural Analysis). And he praised the changes he has seen in his little girl.

"Mia has started to speak, she's been more affectionate and is a lot more content," he said.

The former Boyzone star also made a plea for funds to build a new school for autistic children in the North.

"I am speaking from the heart because I have seen my little girl getting the opportunity to have a decent standard of life," he said.

Keith Duffy's generous charity donation

Generous Keith Duffy, who used to sing in the famous Irish boyband 'Boyzone', has just given 25,000 to charity.
The charity is called SPEAC, and was actually set up by Keith to help children who have autism. Keith's own daughter was born with this disease a few years ago.
SPEAC wants to build one of the first schools for autistic children in Northern Ireland, so Keith has given them all this money to help make that dream come true. Everyone can see Keith on their tellies on 'Coronation Street', where he plays Ciaran the friendly Irish barman.

Corrie's Keith Duffy heads west

CORONATION STREET star Keith Duffy is quitting the soap to aim for stardom in Hollywood. The former Boyzone singer, who plays Rovers Return barman Ciaran McCarthy, will leave Weatherfield in September when his contract runs out.

But Granada bosses have yet to decide his exit storyline - or whether the character of the Irish charmer will be killed off. A Corrie spokeswoman said Keith's departure was a "mutual decision".

"I'm grateful for the opportunities I've been given by Coronation Street," said Keith. "I've learned a huge amount and been given the chance to work with some fantastic people." Keith, 30, added: "I'm looking forward to spending more time with my family, who have been incredibly supportive during my two-and-a-half years working in Manchester."

Wife Lisa, 33, daughter Mia, four, and son Jordan, nine, have been unable to relocate to the city as Mia is autistic and attends a special school in Dublin. Now Keith is looking forward to working in Ireland and trying for film parts in Hollywood. "I'm very excited about the future and can't wait to get my teeth into some of the roles I've been offered."

He was forced to take a break from the Street after tearing the cruciate ligament in his leg while dancing an Irish jig in front of cast members late last year and undergoing an operation in hospital.

A former Celebrity Big Brother contestant, Keith proved popular with millions of Street fans. Producer Tony Wood said: "Keith has been an asset to the show and will be missed by everyone who's worked with him.

"There have been various discussions about the future of his character over the past few months and, after talking with Keith, we decided that Ciaran McCarthy had run his course in the show."
