Both require reservations. The Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge also is close by. There are other historical sites in the area also.
If you prefer something less "natural", head north on I-95 or U.S. 17 to Savannah, about one hour away. Discount shopping is available at Prime Outlets on I-95 North at Darien.
Jekyll Island offers history as well as outdoor activities. You can take a tour of the historic district and learn about the millionaires who vacationed there years ago. Don't miss looking in on the Jekyll Island Club Hotel or the new Sea Turtle Center. There is also an 11-acre water park sure to keep kids of all ages busy for the day.
On St. Simons, you can't miss taking a tour of the Lighthouse, probably the most famous landmark on the island. Other sites not to miss are Fort Frederica and Christ Church.
