| Dr. Paul Emmitt Davis, 83, of McDonough, passed away Feb. 5, 2008 at his residence. Dr. Davis was born in Emanuel County, Ga., to the late Dave L. and Lizzie Wiggins Davis. His brothers, Melvin and Clinton Davis, preceded him in death. He is survived by Martha Bland Davis, of McDonough, devoted wife of 59 years; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki (Ronnie) Stephens, of Buford, and Debra (Danny) Brown, of McDonough; grandchildren, Brittany (Shane) Terrell, Zane Stephens, and Josh Brown; great grandchildren, Madison, Macey, and Hadley Terrell; siblings, Thelma Powell, of Savannah, Inman (Runette) Davis, of Statesboro, Helen (O'Neal) Rogers, of Blun, and Peggy (Robert) Ware, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. Dr. Davis proudly served his county in the U.S. Navy in WWII as an aviation radioman and gunner, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following the Navy, he received B.S., Masters, and Doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia. His career and passion as an educator spanned 45 years and included coaching, teaching and administration. He was principal at various Georgia schools, including, LyonsHigh School, McDonoughChristianAcademy, and Alexander Stephens, as well as vice president at Brewton-ParkerCollege for 12 years. Later in his career, he was the Education Director of Ga.Diagnostic & ClassificationCenter, graduating a record number of inmates. He was the first certified teacher to implement Driver's Education in the Georgia school system. He was a devoted family man spending countless hours with his wife, daughters and their families, teaching them to love the Lord and enjoy life. He was an avid golfer and reader and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in his native South Georgia. He was an active member of SalemBaptistChurch in McDonough. He has faithfully served the Lord in Church through the years in the roles as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and lay speaker. Funeral Services will be conducted on Feb. 8, at 11a.m., at SalemBaptistChurch in McDonough, with the Rev. Charles Q. Carter and the Rev. Dan McKay officiating. Interment will follow at LakeCemetery in Metter, Ga., at 4:30 p.m. Friends may visit the family, 4-7 p.m. on Feb. 7, at the funeral home.
