BIOGRAPHIES

William Vernon BURGER-After Graduation I located to Cleveland Ohio and secured a job with Westinghouse Electric Corporation. My first job was in accounting. I worked 34 years for Westinghouse. About 28 of them in supervisory or management assignments. Those assignments encompassed manufacturing and distribution, accounting, accounting manager, financial planning manager, manufacturing manager, purchasing manager and in 1992 I retired at the time I was a Division Administrative Manager for the Midwest. I went back to work two weeks after retirement. I currently work as the Director of Finance for Glendale Heights. Have been at this job for 8 years. I attended night classes at 5 different colleges as Westinghouse was transferring me. After 14 years of night classes I finished my degree at Elmhurst College. I played a lot of Sports for many years in industrial and local leagues. I coached baseball for 23 years and basketball and football for about 10 years. Married in 1960 to Betty Ann and still married to this wonderful lady. Four Children Bill Jr., Timothy, Deborah, and Daniel. Ages 40 to 30. All still live and work within 15 miles and thus I stay in this area to be near them. Four grandsons. Ages 10 to 4 all playing baseball. Obviously I am very proud of all of them.

Carl ELZA-Carl lived in Lombard, IL, died 2007. He had retired after a long career in the food industry, and had a little part time job. He died of a heart attack while working in his garage. He was survived by his wife, 3 sons, and several grandchildren. (Email from Bill BURGER, IL).

Curtis Merrell FULTON-65, of Stuarts Draft, VA, died, 4 Apr 2004, at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. He was born in Kempton, MD, 25 May 1938, s/o Merrell and Hazel Lipscomb FULTON. Survivors include his wife, one son, four step-sons, two step-daughters, three brothers, one sister, and 15 grandchildren. He graduated with the class of 1957 from Thomas High School (Mountaineer). He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kingwood. (Obit. Parsons Advocate)

Donald Lee PHILLIPS-First year worked as an Apprentice Electrician. Entered Air Force May 1958, retired Oct 1984 after serving 26 1/2 years. Have 3 1/2 years of college; was married in 1961 in Madrid, Spain to Maria GONZALES. We have two boys and one girl. All three children have college degrees. Oldest son is a Certified Professional Engineer, a daughter is a Certified Public Accountant, and they youngest son is a Major in the Air Force. Have six grandchildren. After retiring from the Air Force, I taught night classes for Orange County Public Schools for sever years. Worked as a Project Manger for McQuay Service and Johnson Controls at the Orlando Naval Training Center who had the contract for all maintenance and replacement of heating/ventilating/air condition equipment. Worked last two years before final retirement as a consultant for ABI Computer Controls for Heating and Air Conditioning. I am now retired and do some worldwide travel.

Melvin Harry SIMMONS; 70, a resident of Herndon, Va., for many years before moving to Ashburn, Va., in 2002, died on Tuesday Sept. 5,  in Lansdowne, Va. Mr. Simmons was born April 8, 1936, in Davis, to the late Harry E. and Mary Bonner Simmons.Mr. Simmons is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Jean Simmons of Ashburn, Va.; two children, Michael Simmons of Tampa, Fla., and Jo Ann Murray of Ashburn, Va.; two brothers, Jack Simmons of Oakland, Md., and Keith Simons of Morgantown; two grandsons, Joseph Murray and Harrison Simmons; and a host of other relatives and friends.He served his country as a helicopter crew chief in the U.S. Army. Mr. Simmons had worked in the parts department of many Northern Virginia area Ford dealerships before his retirement.Friends were received on Sept. 7 at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Center. S.E., Leesburg, Va. on Thursday, Spt.7 from 6-9 p.m. Services were held on Friday, Sept. 8 at the funeral home with Dr. G. Keith Almond officiating. Interment followed in Hillsboro Cemetery at Hillsboro, Va.  Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216. Arrangements were by Loudoun Funeral Chapel, Leesburg, Va.
