BIOGRAPHIES

Louise BRAUN: Louise Miller, 83, formerly of Davis passed away April 17, at Colonial Place, Elkins. She was born Jan. 7, 1925 in Davis, a daughter of the late Emil Frederick Braun and Nada Elizabeth Buskirk Braun. She was preceded in death by her husband William M. "Bill" Miller in 1968. She is survived by one son William "Mont" (and Barbara) Miller of Parsons; one daughter Pamela (and Edward) Harrah of Gross Point, Mich.; three grandchildren William D. Harrah of Mich., Rachel A Miller of Charlotte, N.C. and Nathan S. Miller and fiancee (Shannon Toth) of Morgantown; two brothers Robert Braun of Middlefield, Ohio and Charles Braun of Rock Creek, Ohio; and one sister Mary Ann Wilson of Winter Haven Fla. She was preceded in death by one brother Fred Braun. Mrs. Miller retired from the United States Postal Service, as Postmaster in Davis, after 28 years.  She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star #43, Past President of Tuesday Night Club, Tucker County Senior Citizens.  She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church since 1940, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, a Lutheran League Leader, and member of the church council.  She was also active in many community activities, including The Alpine Festival and Davis School Reunion.  She also attended First United Methodist Church in Parsons. Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Saturday, April 19 from 6 - 9 p.m. Services were held at Hinkle Funeral Chapel on Sunday, April 20, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Allen Schwarz and Rev. Jeff Anderson officiating.  Interment followed at the Davis Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tucker County Senior Citizens 206 3rd Street Parsons, WV 26287.  Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (Parsons Advocate, 23 apr 2008)

Vane B. "Mike" "Pop" IDEN: 82, d. Deep Creek Lake 19 sep 2006, at Garrett Co., Memorial Hosital, Oakland, MD; b. 9 Jul 1824, David, WV, s/o Ershel W. and Hazel (BURGER) IDEN; retired from C&P Telephine Co., after 42 years, he installed the first telephone in Garrett Coouty; volunteer at Target; active in the Telephone Pioneers, former mayor of Loch Lynn Heights, an avid hunter, fisherman and Boy Scout leader. He coaached Oakland Little League and supported the Pawn Run Softball Team. He is survived by his wife, Freda, two daughters, Christina and Andrea, two sisters, Winona and Patricia; Burial  in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland, MD. (Republican, Oakland 21 Sep 1906)

Helen B. KENNARD: 82, Pasadena, MD, d. 5 Nov 2005, Baltimore Washington Med. Center; b. 1 Mar 1923, Davis, WV. Survived by her husband of 62y, and a daughter, Bernice H. DOAK of Pasadena, MD. She graduated from Davis High School, and was employed with National Industries; retired in 1985 after 25 years; member of the Ladies of the Moose and Glen Burnie American Legion Post 277.  (Obit: Parsons Advocate, 9 Nov 2005)

Paul Alphonsus MEYER: 85, of Davis, passed away Jan. 29, 2007, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas. He was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Davis, a son of the late Edgar Guy Meyer and Gertrude Veronica Hivick Meyer.  He was preceded in death by his wife Christine Korosec Meyer in 1987.Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Herman August “Jim” Meyer, Charles Frederick Meyer and two at infancy, Robert and Edgar; four sisters, Mary Jackson Marshall, Rosina Meyer, Zita Rookwood and one at childhood, Gertrude.Survivors include one sister, Katherine DeWitt or Morgantown; nephews, Herman A. Meyer Jr., Frederick E. Meyer, Robert DeWitt, Edward Herrington, Dr. Alexander Waitkus and Robert Waitkus; and one niece, Susan F. Meyer.Mr. Meyer was a WWII veteran having served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Mississippi BB-41. He worked as an autobody technician at Meyer Pontiac Garage in Davis for many years until its closure. He then retired from the Davis Center where he was employed as a teacher in the woodworking shop. He was a member of the former St. Veronica Catholic Church, American Legion and VFW Post of Thomas and the Davis IOOF Lodge #103.Friends were received at the Hinkle Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. A rosary service was held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Father Timothy Grassi as celebrant. Interment followed in the Davis Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. (Parsons Advocate 7 Feb 2007)
