BIOGRAPHIES

Kate CURRAN: Kate Mae Curran, 100, formerly of Davis, passed away May 17, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md. She was born March 23, 1908, at Davis, a daughter of the late James Calvin Curran and Mary Ann Sayre Curran. She is survived by four nieces, Mary Pat Murray of Huntingtown, Md., Peggy Haas, of Bowie, Md., Virginia Saalman of Naples, Fla., and Joyce Sanford of Morehead City, N.C.; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.  Miss Curran was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen Curran and Ralph “Patrick” Curran. Miss Curran attended Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Prior to retiring she worked as a social worker for community development. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and she donated much time to catholic charities. Her long life was devoted to her family of friends. Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home of Davis on Thursday, May 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. Rosary will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 23, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Thomas with Father Timothy Grassi officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. (Parsons Advocate 21 May 2008)

Ruth E. Thompson MOON-95, of Orange City, FL, d. 20 Apr at Majestic Oaks at John Knox Village in Orange City, FL. She was born 25 sep 1908, in Davis, d/o George B. and Elsie Pryor Thompson. Her husband, Joachim R. Moon died in 1967. She was a school teacher in NJ, a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star WAlter Chapter 43, and a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Enterprise, FL. Her remains were cremated, and interred in Davis Cemetery. (Obit. Parsons Advocate)

Isabelle T. Eshelman SPIGGLE: b. 25 Jul 1907, in Davis, d/o George Harry and Bessie Bell Twigg Eshelman, d. 4 Mar 2005 in Davis. She was preceded in death by husband Wayne C. Spiggle; a stepson, David Spiggle; a sister Mary Eshelman; and a granddaughter, Mary Lenora (Lynn) Spiggle. Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Eshelman and Ruth E. Edwards of David; a neice Betsy Edward, David; a son George Allen Spiggle and wife Nancy, Prestonsburg, KY; a stepson, Dr. Wayne C. Spiggle, and wife Betty, Short Gap, WV; 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She graduated from Davis HS, and Shepherd College. She taught school at Canaan Valley and Davis. After her marriage, she assisted her husband in management of Spiggle Funeral Home in Davis. She was a member of David U. Methodist Church. Burial will be in Aurora Cem. Mildred ESHELMAN: b. Feb. 18, 1909 in Davis, a daughter of the late George Henry and Bessie Bell Twigg Eshelman; She is survived by her niece Betsy (and Rev. James) Martin of Davis; nephews Wayne C. (and Betty) Spiggle of Keyser and George Allen (and Nancy) Spiggle of Prestonsburg, Ky.; and several great nieces and nephews; She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Eshelman, Isabelle Spiggle and Ruth Edwards. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Miss Eshelman was a retired school teacher having taught 42 years in Tucker County, first at the Cosner and Cortland Schools in Canaan Valley, finishing her career at the Davis and Mountaineer High Schools. She was a life long member of the Davis United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
