Dear Dave,

While it is on my mind I want to give you what little information I have. Unfortunately, I don't have anything concrete, but you may have some other sources which could fill in some of the holes. I retired in 1988 and have been teaching school. We have sold our house and will begin to travel full-time in June. Therefore, what little I have is in storage and I would have some difficulty finding any specific thing right now.

I do have some slides of the 2 1 st RAC compound and some of the people during the time I was there. Of course, they are in storage. I also have an "Annual" of the 212th Bn during the time I was there. It has a lot of pictures in it; at some point I will be able to find it storage. I am enclosing some names of individuals that I can remember from both the 21st and 212th. As I come across other information I will be glad to share it with you.

I think it is great that you are trying to put together some information about the 2 1 st RAC and 2 12 th Battalion. I wish I had more information.

From the roster you enclosed with your letter to me - I followed Bob Kimbrough as XO of the 21st. He had just become the SI of the 212th when I arrived. I followed him as the SI when he left RVN.

Sincerely,

Jerry D. Jackson

21st RAC (Jan - Jun 71)

Al Bach. Al was my roommate at the 21st. He was a WO I at the time and a former Marine. He had a previous tour in RVN as a Marine grunt. I last heard he got out of the At-my shortly after that time and was flying commercially in Florida.

Major Marshall Fayard. Marshall was the Company Commander when I arrived. In fact, he arranged for me to come to the 2 1 st when I arrived. Marshall and I served together at Fort Rucker in the Department of Tactics during the period 67-69. Marshall left RVN within days of my arrival. The incoming commander, Jerry Ginn, got sick just before he came to Chu Lai and was evacuated to Japan about the time of my arrival. I was the interim commander for about 3 weeks until he returned from Japan. Marshall Fayard was from Mississippi.

Captain(P) Jerry W. Ginn. He was the commander, following Marshall Fayard, for about 3 months. My best recollection is that Jerry Ginn left RVN about April or May 197 1. Before coming to the 2 lst he was as Assistant S3 at the 212th.

Captain(P) Kenneth E. Hamburger. Ken followed Jerry Ginn as commander. Ken left the 21st and came to the 212th CAB as the S3 in early fall 1971. He was from Lawton, OK and went to college at Oklahoma State. He and I came back from RVN together in December 1971. 1 am from a small town near Lawton. I believe Ken is now a permanent professor at West Point.

212th CBT AVN BN (Jun 71 - Dec 71)

LTC Carl A. Wilson was the 212th Battalion Conunander while I was in the 21st. He left RVN within a few days of my going to the SI in June 1971.

LTC John A. Lovett became the Battalion Commander in late June 1971

following LTC Wilson. He remained the commander until the battalion stood down in December 197 1. I last saw him at Fort Rucker around 197 7.

Captain James Wilson was the assistant SI while I was SI. Jim was also my roommate. He arrived in RVN shortly after I became SI. He was married to a LTG Seamons daughter. The last I heard of him, I believe, he was teaching at West Point (many years ago).

Major Thomas E. Cote was the XO of the battalion when I arrived in June 1971. He left RVN, left the Army, and was a civilian running a USAR Flight Facility in Missouri the last I heard of him (mid 80s).

Major James J. Davis replaced Cote as the Battalion XO. He came to San Antonio as a USAR aviation advisor from RVN.
