The Cyborg (Fe)Man/ual

Identity and Community

We never got around to responding to these questions, but we think they are vital to think about, and ask that future makers of cyborgs attend to them, or at least ponder them:

What kind of cultural mobility can it have?  Who can it move among?

Will it have a religion?

What is its relationship to religion and culture to be?

What will its class be?  And what does that mean?

Is it sui generis?  If it is self sufficient and all knowing, how can it be part of a community?

Does it identify as a "cyborg," is it part of a community of other cyborgs?  Is it part of a community at all?

Who else will know that it is a cyborg?

Will it be lonely?

If it has a MWOKDB how will it sustain a sense of self  -- and does it need a sense of self?

If it has gender, class, race, age, embodiment, how will its "identity" be shaped by (or shape) these social facts?
