Several people have suggested that I start a blog, so I decided that I will. Let everyone that intends to read this know, I adhere to my own set of gramatical rules and styles and frequently invent my own jargon. I will in no way conform to any sort of logical or structural set of guidelines when it comes to writing...The thoughts purge themselves through my fingers onto the information superhighway. HTML and script use will be kept to a minimum so even the most archaic computer may view this page while at the same time I minimize the effort required to maintain this page. You will however have to deal with the yahoo advertisement.
10.3.04 - Rent is due tommorow, so I'll be on a severe budget for a few days until next Monday. Then all will be back to normal. The first teaching paycheck and the first full check from yummy.com come in. The pressure to generate income at a furious pace out of necessity is disappearing, which in some respects is too bad. Maintaining a level of productivity similar to my first few weeks here will likely be not as appealing in the coming weeks. On the other hand I am constantly reminded that I came out here for a few reasons and sitting around idle really doesn't mesh with any of them. The endless balance between work and personal time...
Bartending and the lofty goals of eventually owning a business establishment dealing with food and beverage are on the forefront. Education, research and patience ... common denominators of success in most things in life (with a few exceptions) are really the only plans I have at the moment for the said ventures. While education, as in a bartending school, seems like an obvious route towards achieving a start in the right direction, that is where patience and research rear their heads and say "not again on my watch sir". Proverbial and conventional wisdom conjur up familiar phrases like "all that glitters is not gold"...blahblahblahblah...at the same time there is some truth to it or so my own empirical evidence would lead me to believe. I've been poking around and asking a lot of actors and other bartending folk about the business in the area. Apparently school is not always the best way to go, but it depends on the location and area you are looking to get your foot in the door. The trend is for actors to work one day a week at a bar (it is a lucrative enough profession to afford them that luxury) and spend the rest of it in the studios. Since this is the case, each bar has a large arsenal of poor and aspiring people to call upon in the event that they need a bartender asap. Which is good and bad for incoming prospective bartending staff. I'm stuck with the choice of planning my approach considering my personal assets in this respect... There are far too many methods of approach to consider at the moment, hence the research and patience while I narrow down the possibilities into a few optimal circumstances. And in the meantime who knows, I might just bump into the right people...that tends to happen out here once in a while.
All of that serious business aside, I can ponder to my heart's content while basking in the sun up on the roof in a hammock. The 80 degree weather just does not stop....The world had better get ready, I'm one shower away from dragging myself out of here and being a menace to society.
