no
need that I should write you. 2. For you yourselves know perfectlly that the day
of the Lord so
comes as a thief in the night. 3. For when they say, "Peace and safety!, then
sudden destruction
comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not
escape. 4. But you,
brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
5. You are all sons of
light and sons of the day. 6. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let
us watch and be sober.
7. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at
night. 8. But let us who
are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a
helmet the hope of
salvation. 9. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation
through our Lord Jesus
Christ, 10. who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live
together with Him.
11. Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are
doing. 12. And we urge
you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the
Lord and admonish
you. 13. and to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. Be at
peace among
yourselves. 14. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort
the fainthearted,
uphold the weak be patient with all. 15. See that no one renders evil for evil
to anyone, but always
pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.16. Rejoice always, 17. pray
without ceasing,
18. in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for
you. 19. Do not quench the
Spirit. 20. Do not despise the prophencies. 21. Test all things; hold fast what
is good. 22. Abstain
from every form of evil. 23. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you
completely; and may
your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
24. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.

1. For you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain. 2.
But even after we
had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we
were bold in our God to
speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict, 3. For our exhortation did not
come from error or
uncleanness, nor was it in deceit. 4. But as we have been approved by God to be
entrusted with the
gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts. 5.
For neither at any
time did we use flattering words as you know, not a cloak for coveousness-God is
witness. 6. Nor
did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have
made demands as
apostles of Christ. 7. But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother
cherishes her own
children. 8. So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart
to you not only the
gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us. 9. For
you remember,
bretrhren, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be
a burden to any of you,
we preached to you the gospel of God. 10. You are witnesses, and God also, how
devoutly and
justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe; 11. as you
know how we
exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own
children, 12. that
you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and
glory.

25. not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of
some, but exhorting one
another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. 26.For if we sin
willfully after we
have received the knowledge of the truth, there is no longer remains a sacrifice
for sins, 27.but a
certain fearful expectation of judgement, and fiery indignation which will
devour the adversaries.
28. Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of
two or three
witnesses. 29. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought
worthy who has
trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he
was sanctified a
common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30. For we know Him who said,
Vengeance is Mine,
I will l repay, says the Lord, And again, The Lord will judge His people. 31. It
is a fearful thing to fall
into the hands of the living God. 32. But recall the former days in which, after
you were illuminated,
you endured a great struggle with sufferings; 33. partly while you were made a
spectacle both by
reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who
were so treated;
34. for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the
plundering of your goods,
knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in
heaven. 35. Therefore
do not cast away your conmfidence, which has great reward. 36. For you have need
of endurance, so
that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise; 37. For
yet a little while, and
He who is coming will come and will not tarry.

3:17)17. Obey those who rule over you, and be
submissive, for they
watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with
joy and not with grief,
for that would be unprofitable for you.

salvation of your souls. 10. Of
this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied
of the grace that
would come to you, 11. searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of
Christ who was in them
was indicatingwhen He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the
glories that would
follow. 12. To them it was revealed that, ot to themselves, but to us they were
ministering the things which
now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you
by the Holy
Spirit sent from heaven-things which angels desire to look into. 13. Therefore
gird up the loins of
your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be
brought to you at the
revelation of Jesus Christ;

5. They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the
dead. 6. For this reason
the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged
according to men in
the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. 7. But the end of all things
is at hand; therefore be
serious and watchful in your prayers. 8. And above all things have fervent love
for one another, for
love will cover a multitude of sins. 9. Be hospitable to one another without
grumbling. 10. As each
one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the
manifold grace of God.
11. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers,
let him do it as with
the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified though
Jesus Christ, to whom
belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever, Amen. 12. Beloved, do not
think it strange
concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing
happened to you; 13. but
rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His
glory is revealed. you may
also be glad with exceeding joy. 14. If you are reproached for the name of
Christ, blessed are you,
for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is
blasphemed, but on your part
He is glorified.
