Guidelines for success!!!
**Always come to class prepared (writing utensils, notebooks, brains)
**Respect others...everyone's opinion's count and will be respected by all.
**Participate!!!!

Notebooks
Each of you will be REQUIRED to keep a notebook to help keep you organized.  The notebook must be a three ring binder that is organized in the following order:  Your notebook will be a twenty point grade at the end of each nine weeks.

1.  Assignment sheet
On your assignment sheet, you should keep the date, points possible and points you have received.  This will be your record of your grades so that you will always know what you have.  I will not tell you your grade unless it is at interim or the end of the nine weeks.  It is your responsibility to keep track of your grades.  Ten bonus points will be given at the end of the nine weeks if you grade is within two percentage points of my grade for you.
2.  Course requirements.
3.  Notes-
Notes include slide presentations, group work, and handouts.
4.  Homework
In this section, keep all graded homework.  Your weekly assignments will be listed for you on our classroom website.  You will be able to check your reading assignments, or anything that will be due that week.  This information can also be found in class on the assignment board.  The classroom website is

www.geocities.com/davidsoncats/socialstudies.html

5.  Quizzes and Tests

Grades
You will be graded in a variety of ways such as tests, quizzes, projects, notebooks, class conduct and other fun and exciting things.  To average your grades, simply take your points and divide it by the points possible.

Homework
Most homework assignments will range in value from 5 to 25 points.  Some homework will be graded for accuracy, some will be graded for completeness.  Assignments will be collected at the beginning of class.  Any assignments turned in after I collect homework will be late.  If you come to class late without a pass, your homework will also be late.  Late assignments have ONE WEEK to be turned in for late credit, which is half its original value.  After one week, your homework will not receive credit.

Tests-Quizzes
Tests will be given at the end of chapters and are typically worth 50-100 points.  Quizzes will be given typically once every two weeks and are worth 10 to 50 points.  If you are absent on a test day, you will have to make up your test THURSDAYS after school.  I am also available first and third period to make up tests.

Projects and Papers
You will be notified of the date and point values of projects and papers when they arise! All major writing assignments must be in MLA format.  Papers must be typed, double spaced, have 1 inch margins on all sides and be in font size 10, 11 or 12.

Behavior:
If behavior does no fit the expectations I have set, the following will occur:
First time a student breaks a rule: Warning
Second time:    Call to parents
Third time:    Detention
Fourth time:    Sent to Principal

Severe misbehaviors such as fighting, severe disrespect or verbal abuse result in immediate removal from class to the principal's office.

Tardies:
You must be in the room when the bell rings or you will be considered tardy.  If you are standing at the door you are late.  On your fourth tardy, you will receive an after school detention served on Thursdays.

Absences:
If you miss a day/days of school, it is your responsibility to get your makeup work.  Check the assignment list or website to find out what you missed.  Come up to my desk and I will have a sheet of paper with your make-up assignment on it.  You MUST staple this sheet to your make-up work when you turn it in.  YOU MUST make the effort; I will not track you down.
You have one day for each day you were absent to make up work.  If something was due the day you were absent, and you were there the day it was assigned, it is due when you return.  After your allotted make-up time, work will not be accepted so don't ignore your responsibilities!!  In order for you to make up work, absences must be excused or official.

Passes:
You will be given three passes each nine weeks.  After these passes are used, you won't leave the classroom again so use them wisely.  The appropriate time to use the passes is at my discretion.  You are allowed to be gone for 2-4 minutes.  If you are gone longer, your pass privileges will be revoked.  At the end of the nine weeks, you will receive three bonus points for each one not used and ten total if you don't use any!

If at any time you have a question or don't understand something please ask me.  I want you to get the most out of this class that you possibly can, but that also requires LISTENING on your part.  I am available after school, and first and third period for extra help.  Let's have a great year!!!!!
