Introducing The Seekers

From Australia came a folk group called the "Seekers" there were three boys and one girl, Athol Guy, Bruce Woodley and Keith Potger were the names of the male members. Judith Durham was the female member. They all came from Melbourne, but Keith was born in Ceylon.

The group arrived in Southampton on a cruise liner called The "Fairsky" in 1964 they were only going to stay for ten weeks, but such was their popularity that they remained in England for 4 years. In that time they had a string of hit records the likes of "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World Of Our Own", "The Carnival Is Over", "Georgy Girl", and many more.

Such was the group's rise to fame that they were soon to tour worldwide and made several trips back to Australia. Then in 1968 came the shock news that they were to split, Judith was eager to branch out on her own, as she felt she had so much more to give her fans. So as agreed by each member of the group she gave 6 months notice and then started out on her solo career.

Through the 70`s and 80`s my personal view is that the pop world sadly missed the Seekers special type of music!

Top Right: Judith Durham born in Melbourne is the lead singer of the group, started out singing Jazz before joining the Seekers plays piano and tambourine. Later on in her life she became a vegetarian. By the mid seventies she married an English man called Ron Edgeworth a jazz pianist and after breaking with the Seekers in 1968 they formed a group called She also went on and had a very successful solo career.

Top left: Keith Potger Born in Ceylon moved to Melbourne when he was just a boy, a self taught guitarist excels on a twelve string guitar also sings vocals with the group. Keith also formed the New Seekers and did a few television jingles after the Seekers.

Bottom right: Bruce Woodley born in Melbourne also self taught guitarist and plays banjo, mandolin also sings and writes songs such as I Am Australian for which he will always be remember for.

Bottom Left: Athol Guy founder of the group also born in Melbourne plays double bass and sings low vocals. When Athol left the group he went into Politics and into television. Like Keith and Bruce, he also went to Melbourne High school.
