PTOSIS

commonest causes:

3rd cranial (oculomotor) nerve palsy [pupil dilated in complete 3rd cranial nerve palsy]

Horner's syndrome

myasthenia gravis [ptosis may be unilateral or asymmetrical]

rarer causes:

congenital ptosis

ocular myasthenia

syphilis

muscular dystrophy, eg. facioscapulohumeral, dystrophia myotonica, progressive external ophthalmoplegia
