NEUROPATHY (AXONAL / DEMYELINATING)

[classified according to nerve conduction studies findings]

AXONAL NEUROPATHY [preserved conduction velocity; reduced action potential]:

diabetes mellitus

hereditary sensorimotor neuropathy type 2

renal failure

B12 and folate deficiency

carcinomatous neuropathy

drug-related:

vincristine

isoniazid

DEMYELINATING NEUROPATHY [marked decrease in nerve conduction velocity and reduced AP]:

diabetes mellitus

hereditary sensorimotor neuropathy type 1 [hypertrophied nerves]

Guillain-Barre syndrome

'acquired demyelinating neuropathies'
