myoclonus [very rapid, irregular movement involving multiple fascicles or muscle groups; may be accentuated by movement or startle] chorea [rapid, irregular movement of distal limbs and face; often incorporated into voluntary movements] athetosis [slow, irregular posturing of distal limbs and face; usually bilateral] tic [rapid, irregular stereotyped movement, usually of face or neck; can be suppressed voluntarily] spasm [slow, irregular stereotyped movement, usually of face or neck; can be suppressed voluntarily] dystonia [very slow, irregular, persistent (often grotesque and sustained) posturing, usually of trunk and limbs; spasmodic torticollis is often first manifestation] ballism [rapid, irregular, often violent/flinging movement of proximal limb; usually unilateral (hemiballism); caused by lesion of ipsilateral subthalamic nucleus] |
NB: chorea and athetosis are often associated/combined [='choreoathetosis']
