infectious mononucleosis (EBV)

CMV infection

rubella

chronic lymphatic leukaemia

other reticuloendothelial disorders

AIDS / HIV seroconversion illness

drugs, eg. phenytoin, isoniazid, antileprosy drugs, antithyroid drugs

rarer causes:

toxoplasmosis

rheumatoid arthritis

systemic lupus erythematosus

tuberculosis

brucellosis

sarcoidosis

dengue

leishmaniasis

Chagas' disease

2° syphilis

serum sickness (type 3 hypersensitivity)
