LEUKAEMOID REACTION

[NB: usually granulocytic but may also involve lymphocytes]

severe and/or chronic infections (commonest causes)

severe haemolysis

widespread malignancy

NB: main differential diagnosis of leukaemoid reaction is chronic granulocytic leukaemia
