tropical:

malaria

typhoid fever

plague

typhus fever

dengue

chikungunya

other:

influenza

pyelonephritis

lobar pneumonia

septicaemia (usually bacterial)

bacterial abscess, e.g. hepatic or subdiaphragmatic

ascending cholangitis

NB: Any acute viral or other infection can cause chills or rigors
