HYPERALDOSTERONISM

[Conn's syndrome; plasma renin very low]:

adenoma of zona glomerulosa

hyperplasia

2° hyperaldosteronism [raised plasma renin]:

liver cirrhosis with ascites

nephrotic syndrome

severe CHF (especially treated with diuretics)

rare causes:

salt depletion

malignant hypertension

renal artery stenosis

Bartter's syndrome (primary hyperreninism)

liquorice

carbenoxolone
