HYDROCEPHALUS

communicating:

compensatory (atrophy of brain parenchyma)

papilloma of choroid plexus (over-secretion of CSF; very rare)

sagittal sinus thrombosis

intra-ventricular bleed

congenital toxoplasmosis

tuberculous meningitis

'normal-pressure hydrocephalus' [dilated ventricular system with normal intracranial pressure but with continuing brain atrophy]

non-communicating:

intra-ventricular tumour (at region of 3rd and 4th ventricles)

aqueductal stenosis

Arnold-Chiari malformation

Dandy-Walker syndrome

external compression by other tumours or oedema
