diabetes mellitus

renal glycosuria (commoner in pregnancy)

alimentary (lag storage curve on OGTT):

normal (reactive hypoglycaemia)

partial gastrectomy / gastroduodenostomy

early diabetes

hyperthyroidism

hepatic disease

other:

carbohydrate deprivation

renal tubular damage, eg. Fanconi syndrome, heavy metal poisoning

brain tumours

hypokalaemia

false positive test:

lactosuria (in late pregnancy)

fructosuria (fructokinase deficiency)

ascorbic aciduria

NB: 'Clinitest' gives false positive result with other sugars; 'Clinistix' is specific for glucose.
