idiopathic (1° ) FSGS [cause of 10% of nephrotic syndrome in children and of 15% in adults]

superimposed on another 1° GN, eg. IgA nephropathy

renal ablation FSGS [associated with loss of renal mass, occurring in advanced stages of other renal disease]:

reflux nephropathy

analgesic nephropathy

unilateral renal agenesis

secondary FSGS:

heroin abuse

HIV infection
