viral infection:

hepatitis A

acute hepatitis B or C (rare)

yellow fever

CMV

bacterial infection:

ascending cholangitis, including obstructive jaundice with infection

leptospirosis

typhoid and paratyphoid fevers

typhus

relapsing fever

any sepsis with underlying liver disease

parasites:

Plasmodium falciparum malaria

toxoplasmosis

trypanosomiasis

fascioliasis

non-infective causes:

drug or transfusion reactions causing haemolysis
