ENDOCARDITIS

infection:

bacterial, eg. Streptococcus bovis

fungal, eg. Candida

atypical organisms, eg. Rickettsia, Chlamydia

other:

malignancy (marantic endocarditis)

systemic lupus erythematosus (Libman-Sacks endocarditis)

NB: in iv drug abusers, right-sided infective endocarditis is typical.
