primary liver disease:

primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC)

primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)

genetic disorders: benign recurrent intra-hepatic cholestasis

Byler's disease (progressive familial intra-hepatic cholestasis)

cystic fibrosis (inspissated bile at level of bile ductules)

miscellaneous causes:

cholestasis of pregnancy

chronic hepatitis B or C

steato-hepatitis (alcoholic or other)

severe sepsis

graft-versus-host disease

total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
