MALIGNANT (ACCELERATED) HYPERTENSION

renal disease:

rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis

reno-vascular hypertension (renal artery stenosis)

other:

essential hypertension (untreated / undiagnosed)

pre-eclampsia

phaeochromocytoma

polyarteritis nodosa

scleroderma

iatrogenic:

clonidine withdrawal

MAOI interactions

NB: HT from any cause can present with accelerated HT.
