| "Teach us to Pray" Luke 11:1-4 We see in the life of Christ that he walked as man yet was God. This man who was the Anointed one of God was called to teach us to become more like God and live in Kingdom authority. We see in this story that after Jesus had called forth disciples of various backgrounds and traditions he began to lead them to fulfill their future call as an Apostle of Christ. We see that these men called out to him as their Teacher and said Lord Teach us to pray! According to Websters Dictionary prayer is defined as an utterance, as unto God, in praise, thanksgiving, confession, etc. We see here and in scripture can take many forms. Jesus said when you pray, do it like this. Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. We begin in praise and exalt God and his will. This open's our spirit up to what the spirit would want to say to you. Praying that God's will be accomplished opens us up and removes selfishness. Give us each day our daily bread: Next we pray for what we need. Keeping in mind that God has covenant with us that he is Jehovah Jirah our Provider and he will supply all our needs (not wants). He will not leave us lacking for anything. And forgive us our sins: We pray for God to forgive us and that all our sin will be placed underneath the blood of Jesus Christ. Through confession of sin we will see that God is faithful to forgive us and will come into relationship with God and he will become our protector who helps us in time of temptation. For we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us. As part of the covenant we must forgive as God forgives. If someone wrongs you and you do not forgive you are in a place of sin. How can we expect forgiveness when we will not let loose of sin? And do not subject us to the final test. This is where it all comes down to. We must be prepared to have covenant relationship with God so that when he returns we will be found ready and we will receive the place we are called into. On earth it comes down to Christ being or defender to against Satan and the Word our sword. This is saying you are in a Covenant of protection. We must humble ourselves to learn to pray the way Christ taught. This is not the only mode of prayer but it is a model. In future teachings we will discuss prayer deeper. May God bless you and keep you! May he make his face shine upon you and give you peace. Scripture is taken from the NAB translation of the Holy Scripture Rev. Jon Medley, 2002 |
