Tuesday 1st February: I landed at Brisbane's International Airport at 6.50am, collected my luggage from the carrousel, and met Grandpa outside the Airport at 7.30am, said hello and gave him a hug. It was extremely humid, at that time of morning. Got back to Arundel and Grandma had breakfast ready - eggs, sausage, tea, cereal etc. I jumped straight into the pool! It is so hot here! Then, I fell asleep until about 1pm and thought it was the morning again, so I start getting the cereal and bowels out and Grandma says 'It's still the same day!' I am so jetlagged, but did not feel it right away! Watched TV in the evening and checked emails. Went to Bed.... (Finally at about 3am!
Wednesday 2nd: Today, I went out with Grandpa/ma and had the $4.50. We had a go at the pokies, (Fruit Machines) did not win anything! They went to Coles for some grocery shopping... just for a few bits and pieces, milk and the TV guide etc. Had a swim in the arvo, and another at 9pm. Even @ night it is humid! Read info on Australia from the TNT Magazine - you got me Dad. Went to bed at a reasonable time... 1am...!
Thursday 3rd: Today, I went out with neighbours' Howard and Lesley, who live a few doors away from where I am staying. We had lunch at Harbour Town's Fasta Pasta. Walked around shops. Went back to Jim and Anita's. Had a rest and a swim, and later in the evening, we went to a Karate class, in which Howard teaches. Lesley and I sat in the park oppersite talking and had a snack. (Ice Cream and Orange Juice) Took Lesley home to New South Wales, where there time is one hour head form Queensland. Watched a little bit of a VERY old episode of EastEnders on UK:TV - Sonia, Jamie, Jim and Dot are in the Vic, Lynne and Gary are arguing, Peggy goes out with Charlie on a date,Trevor (Little Mo's X) and Tom (Sharon's X) die in the fire, Barry and Roy plan a Halloween Pary for Jack and Laura finds out that Janine is the one who wrote her the letter telling her that her and Ian were together!.. So, they are about 2 and a half years' behind! So much has happened since then! Back to tonight, Howard drove back to Arundel. We were going to stop at KFC, but it was getting late. Got back at 10pm; and jumped straight into the pool! It is real hot at night, the humidity seems to be worse! I sleep with the fan on. Read TNT Australia book, listened to Gold FM and went to bed... !
Friday 4th: G'day! This morning, I went for a swim. Grandpa gave me a lift into Surfers Paradise. I walked down Cavill Ave, had a Hungry Jacks (Burger King) for Lunch, walked on the beach, and had a Iced Chocolate at Starbucks. Left Surfer's Paradise at 3pm and got the bus back to Arundel. Ma and Pa are to Shul on Sunday, there is a meeting. I might go to Sanctuary Cove, with Howard and Lesley.
Saturday 5th: Went for a swim, had brekkie, then went to Runaway Bay with Ma and Pa. Had Fish and Chips for lunch. Early evening, went out with Howard to Harbour Town. Had Chinese and McDonalds's McCafe Hot Chocolate. Played Scrabble. Later in 'evening, I was watching a documentary on SBS Televsion which featured Mark Lewisohn in which he was was intervied about writing the book 'Benny Hill'
Sunday 6th: Went to Australia Fair and enquired about a Mobile Phone. Got local paper, circled some jobs that seem to be of some interest and have sent off a few CV's to a couple of Offices and Retail Outlets in the local area. Had $6 steak at The Southport Workers Club, played on the Fruit Machines and won $2! Went for a swim, had dinner and watched Australian 'The X Factor' on Network Ten.
Monday 7th: This morning, I got the number 15 bus to Southport + visited Kelly Services, they said I would need to register on the internet, for jobs and temp work, and then they would get back to me via email/phone. I also handed a few CV�s into some offices in Southport. Used my same bus ticket to go into Surfer�s. You can use it for unlimited Bus travel from the time you purchase the ticket until two hours later. It has been costing me from $1.80c � $2.40c, depending on where you go. Looked for a phone, they say Telstra is the best, but from what I�ve seen, Optus has a good deal, when you first top � up, they double your credit, say you top up $30, they automatically put on $60� I also took with my phone from the UK to the shop, they put an Australian SIM card in my UK phone, but as it is o2, they lock/block it from other people using it! I thought if I could use an Australian SIM card in my English phone, all I l would have had to pay is $29.95, for an Optus SIM Card Pack and would have got $30 worth of credit. I am in the process of looking at a Nokia 3200, which looks very good, you can send photos and email them. Costs 75c to send a photo via email, 50c to send the photo to another camera mobile phone and 25c to text the UK. It�s also 25c to text Australia. I have also looked at another mobile, also Nokia, it�s the 3220, very similar to the 3200, but this one has video playback, but lasts only 15 seconds! You can also email that too. The guy in the shop was very helpful, showed me how to send a photo via email. You can also in include an entire text message with that, and works the same way you would send an email with a photo. Went in the pool when I got back to Ma and Pa�s, it is 34 degrees and still humid/hot. Ben � tell me who is Number One? I looked in a newsagent here and they have OK magazine, but this issue is just before Christmas, when they had �I�m A Celebrity�. What gets me is the sticker on the front of the magazine says it�s the latest issue!!!! It think it was priced up at $7!
Tuesday 8th: Nothing much happened today. Went in the pool this morning and again in the afternoon. Watched TV/Bed!
Wednesday 09th: G'day! Handed CV's into Offices @ Southport. Walked around Australia Fair Shopping Mall
Thursday 10th: This Morning, I went to Harbour Town Shopping Mall to hand out CV's/Resume's. Got bus back to Arundel. Had a swim, lunch and sleep!
Friday 11th: Went into Surfer's Paradise this morning, slopped on some sun - cream, slipped on a T-Shirt, and slaped on a hat! By doing this I am protecting myself from the heavy sunlight during 10am - 4pm! Spoke to Howard who lives in Melbourne on the phone today. The temperature today was 35 degrees! Went to Shul in the evening. Helped set-up the tables for the 'bring and eat' night, in which everyone chips in and brings either a hot dish, a sweet and or a soft drink. Started raining around 10pm, only lasted a few minutes and was over before it even started! Might be going to Pacific Fair tomorrow - this is Queensland's largest Shopping Mall located near Conrad Jupiter's Casino!
Saturday 12th: Grandma gave me a lift to Harbour Town Shopping Mall, I then grabbed a bus from there to Pacific Fair - Queensland's largest Shopping Mall! Spent all morning and afternoon walking around all the shops etc. Jim and Anita (the neighbours) came round to play cards. Watched The X Factor on TV.
Sunday 13th: Went in the pool for about half-an-hour this morning, circled the jobs that sounded interesing in the local paper and.will contact them tomorrow. Today has been the first day it has not been humid! It was 26 degrees at the Seaways; even at that temperature it it was still enough to Slip, Slap and Slop! Spoke to Barbara who lives in Melbourne! This afternoon, we (Grandma, Grandpa, Jim and Anita) all went to the Southport Worker's Club for a $5 Steak and Chips...with entertainment included which apox 2 pounds (GPD)! Had a go at the Fruit Machines after...only won $2! In the evening, I went to Shul to meet other young people who were from Maccarbi Australia. They had an Australian Idol Concet on at the Conrad Jupiter's Convention Centre tonight. Phoned up earlier today, just to see what the ticket price were, and was quoted nearly $100 just for myself! Going back to Southport tomorrow morning to continue handing out my Resume's then onto Surfer's Paradise...
Monday 14th: It�s Valentine�s day fever here and everyone is getting into the spirit! Flowers, Chocolates, Cards, Gifts and Love all round! To stay with the theme, they showed the film �Love Actually� on TV, followed by �Sleepless in Seattle�. Not much happened today, lazed around the pool for most of the morning and afternoon! Weather here sunny with 26 degrees at the seaway�.
Tuesday 15th: Went out for lunch with Grandma and Grandpa to Arundel Tavern
Wednesday 16th: Went to Southport Library and Community Center today to find out some information on tourist things to do, places to go and where to meet people etc! After, saw �Meet The Fockers� at the Cinema.\
Thursday 17th: Went out for lunch with Howard and Lesley to the Southport Worker�s. Had Steak and Chips for $6, then after had a go at the fruit machines! I put on $10 on Keno and won $2!
Friday 18th: Went to Surfer's Paradise today, lazed on the beach for a while, am a little sun-burnt though after a hard day's work at 'the office' = beach! It is soooooo hot here! The temperature is 37 degrees today!!! More diary entries tomorrow including new photos!!! David
Saturday 19th: This morning, we all (Grandma and Grandpa) went to Coolengatta for the day! Went on the beach, walked around the shops, had a coffee and then went for lunch at Conrad Jupiter�s Casino! In the evening, we went to Jim and Anita�s (the Neighbours) to play Cards!
Sunday 20th: G'day peeps! Jumped into the pool this morning! Had Eggy-Bread for Breakfast. (Egg with Bread!) Went out to Braodwater this afternoon, had Baskin Robbins Iceream by the beachfront overlooking the view of Surfer's and the JetSki's! Saw the real meter maids whilst driving via Surfer's on the way back to Arundel.
Saturday 26th: Got a try-out for a job yesterday @ a Cafe in Harbour Town Shopping Centre! I find out on Monday weather I got it or not... Today I went into Surfer's Paradise, there was a Surf Expo, all these well known Surfer's were signing autographs. The weather here is still hot and humid. I was watching SKYnews earlier, and it was snowing in London! Hopefully it won't last too much longer! Going ten-pin bowling tomorrow!
Sunday 27th: Went to Surfer's Paradise, the beach was full up as everyone from the coast comes here for the weekend...
Monday 28th: Went to Harbour Town Shopping Centre for the day.
