Making Melodies Unto The Lord

(Visit Cyber-Hymnal HERE!)

Music is changing in our generation. We have lost the substance of what makes real Christian music. Most people don't know the fundamental elements that make up good Christian music. As in the make-up of every man, woman and child where there is an inner spirit, then a soul, and on the outside of it all is the body, so with music. The Melody is the spirit of the music, the Harmony is the soul of the music, and the Rhythm is the body or flesh.

The purpose of the Melody is to support the Lyrics which are the most important part of every song. In the early days of history, they always sang songs directly from the Bible. The idea of every song was to teach Bible truth and doctrine. For that reason, there needs to be words before the Melody is even written because the purpose of the Melody is to make the words COME ALIVE in the hearts and minds of the people. The harmony merely supports the melodic themes and the rhythm is mainly driven by the Lyrics which the melody supports. In all true Spiritual Music the thing that stands out most is the sense of closeness, praise, worship, adoration, joy, and fellowship with God.

Contemporary music has a different order. Usually the harmony supports the rhythm and the melody is mostly made up of picking one's way through the harmony with the lyrics only being added for good measure. That is what is called sensual or soulish music, not spiritual.

Read the Symphony of Life Seminar:

"You're Putting Me On"

"The Music Is The Message"

"Pop Goes The Music"

"A New Song"

Every one of the Blessed Original Songs were first a moving inspiration from the Lord which produced Lyrics that taught some spiritual truth. Then came the Melody to support the Lyrics and after that the Harmony was added. The Rhythm was already quietly moving the song along with the Lyrics.

We are building this site with several ideas in mind. First, original songs by the host. Second, we are placing some good children's songs you can use in Sunday School and Junior Church. Third are some good choruses that I feel have been completely lost in our generation. Last but not least I will try to add some original violin arrangements of old favorite songs. God bless you as you listen to Melodies Unto The Lord!
